Judging a book (rather, a game) by its cover can sometimes be a big mistake. I’m sure I’ve missed out on some quality games in my life because I walked passed it on the shelf and thought it looked lame, pedestrian, or not worth my money. Just looking at the case for this game, I would’ve initially passed up on it because it just doesn’t look that interesting. I flip the case over, and it doesn’t really sound that interesting. [Game News] Need For Speed Nitro Wii Trailer

I just watched this over on IGN and had to share it with you guys. For those of you who don’t know, Need For Speed Nitro is a Nintendo-exclusive addition to the popular Need For Speed series. Nitro features an awesome art style, gorgeous visuals, funky music, and heavily arcade-inspired gameplay which are all showcased in this trailer.

nintendochannelA new update was released for the Nintendo Channel today, and what an update it is. After installing the new version of the channel and booting it up, I was literally taken aback by how much of an overhaul actually occurred. But before we get into my impressions, here’s Nintendo’s official statement regarding the Updated Nintendo Channel.

NEW-AND-IMPROVED NINTENDO CHANNEL GETS UPDATED FEATURES AND WEEKLY SHOW

Sept. 14, 2009

The Wii™ console’s Nintendo Channel is getting a makeover. On Sept. 14, the channel, which provides users with videos and information about current and upcoming Nintendo products, re-launches with a new look and feel. Some of the upgrades include higher-quality streaming videos, lists of top games that other viewers recommend and a new ability to rate and recommend Nintendo DS™ games.

Current features of the Nintendo Channel will remain, including Nintendo DS demo downloads and an extensive lineup of videos about Wii and Nintendo DS games.

As part of the update, Nintendo Channel will also premiere Nintendo Week, a weekly, hosted series about what’s happening in the world of Nintendo. The premiere episode includes an in-depth look at Mario and Luigi™: Bowser’s Inside Story, an interview with the developers behind the Wii version of Guitar Hero 5, plus coverage of the new Nintendo DSi colors, Nintendo DSiWare games and other surprises.

[Game Review] The Legend of Zelda (Wii Virtual Console, NES)

Originally released in 1987 on the Nintendo Entertainment System, The Legend of Zelda was a bold new design from the now-legendary Shigeru Miyamoto. The game shipped with a gold cartridge and a revolutionary ability to save a game’s progress via batter power. Sporting a huge overworld to explore, tons of dungeons and bosses to vanquish, and yet another blond princess to rescue, Miyamoto’s new game went on to become one of the most influential titles in the industry.

Since its release, there have been many sequels, spinoffs, character cameo appearances, and even a philosophical book, but there is only one original. This game is where the greatest franchise in video game history was born. Continue reading →

[Game News] Nintendo Announces Black Wiimote, Pink and White DSi

blackwiimoteThose of us who took an early interest in Nintendo’s now market-leading Wii system remember it being flaunted in a bevvy of colors. Green, blue, pink and some other colors were shown, but black and white understandably stood out as the pack favorites, with white eventually winning the color war.

Those of you, myself included, who were rooting for a black Wii (lol) will find Nintendo’s latest Wii-related announced a tad bittersweet. The Big N has just revealed that they will launch a black variation of the Wiimote, the Nunchuck, and the Wii Motion Plus peripheral this holiday season. Sadly enough, however, no black version of the actual system has been announced as of the time of this writing, but I’ll remain hopeful.

pinkandwhitedsiAccompanying the new color of the Wii accessories is two new DSi colors — white and pink. These two new colors, making four DSi variations total, will be available beginning September 13, 2009.

[Video Game Review] NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits (WiiWare)

NyxQuest started life out as Icarian, and since the first few screenshots and tidbits of information were revealed Wii gamers have been keeping an eye on this unique platformer. It was originally rumored to be heavily influenced by the classic NES game Kid Icarus by IGN, but now that they game is finally here it’s plain to see they were very wrong. Just as they always are about anything Kid Icarus related.
