[Tech News] RIM Apologizes for BlackBerry Network Crash

Yesterday (12/24/09) I was having unexplainable issues with my BlackBerry’s network. I couldn’t receive or send emails, couldn’t use Snaptu or Uber Twitter. Couldn’t access Pandora Radio. Couldn’t use Facebook or MySpace. Most importantly, I couldn’t access the internet. It turns out that I wasn’t the only one. No, not by a long shot. Apparently anyone and everyone with a BlackBerry, at least in the US, experienced the same frustrating issues with their network.

The cause? Well according the RIM, the company behind the popular Smart Phone, has just posted a public apology for the inconvenience as well as an explanation for why everything crashed over on BlackBerry.com. It turns out that the two new versions of BlackBerry messenger (5.0.0.55 and 5.0.0.56) had some sort of fault that caused a huge network outage.

The newest version, 5.0.0.57, is ready for download and fixes the issues with the two previous versions. RIM highly recommends all Berry users download it immediately to prevent future network crashes from occurring.

Review: Resident Evil: Genesis (BlackBerry)

Overview:

Resident Evil has, no questions asked, one of the most impressive histories in gaming. Since it’s inception on the original PlayStation to the soon-to-be-released Resident Evil 5 and everything in between, Capcom almost never lets down its ravenous fans who are craving some horrifying zombie action. Emphasis on almost.

While there have been games to reach legendary status, there have also been duds. Resident Evil: Survivor tried its hand at first person shooting, and failed. Resident Evil: Dead Aim tried the light gun thing, and failed. Resident Evil: Gaiden tried making handheld gaming scary. And failed. All the games mentioned eventually got it right. RE4 nailed the art of shooting (though not in first person), RE Umbrella Chronicles was a great light-gun game, and RE Deadly Silence made the Nintendo DS a dual screen fright fest. But there is one terrible game that has yet to have anything good come out of it. Resident Evil: Genesis for the mobile phones. Ugh.

Review: Myspace for BlackBerry

Overview:

Finally, after far too long of having to stop what I’m doing (porn) in my BlackBerry’s web browser RIM has decided to release an application to run your Myspace for you, without taking up browser privelages. The application is downloadable for free. All you have to do is go to m.myspace.com with your BlackBerry device and a special splash page comes up asking you if you want to download the software for free.

Since the application is rather new there are a few quirks, but let’s see how it preforms anyway.

Myspace for BlackBerry smartphones looks great. It provides a nice, clean interface in the traditional blue and white theme present on the desktop parent. There is a shortcut bar across the top that provides access to your homepage, inbox, friend requests, comments, current friends, and photos. The bar is easily navigated by horizontally moving the trackball, and accessed by a simple click. Continue reading
