[Movie Review] Away We Go (DVD)

away_we_goAnyone know who Sam Mendes is? The director of such films as American Beauty, Jarhead, and my personal favorite, Road to Perdition delivers this incredibly under the radar movie about to expecting parents (The Office’s John Krasinski and SNL’s Maya Rudolph) who realize they aren’t bound by anything in their current lives, and can choose to raise their daughter anywhere they want.

The film follows Bert and Verona on their journey across North America, trying to find the best possible place to raise a child. They head to Phoenix, where their old “friends” live. There they find a largely dysfunctional crew, (including a CRIMINALLY underused Jim Gaffigan), and hot weather, and easily decide this isn’t the place to be. Continue reading

[Food Review] The Big Hardee From Hardee’s

When I reviewed the ho-hum Fried Bologna Biscuit from Hardee’s, I talked a little bit about a sandwich called the Big Carl. For those of you who don’t know, a chain of burger joints called Carl’s Jr. is owned by the same company behind Hardee’s. It was Carl’s that first revealed a sandwich called the Big Carl, whose major selling point was the inclusion of more meat and more cheese than a Big Mac from McDonald’s, only for less money.

Burger lovers without access to a Carl’s Jr. can rejoice, because Hardee’s is finally offering a similar burger, dubbed the Big Hardee. There are some key differences to the two burgers, such as the Big Hardee offering three patties of meat where the Big Carl provides eaters with two slightly larger patties. Continue reading

[Movie News] Paranormal Activity, Demand It!

Don’t you just love those movies that are made with a budget under 100,000 dollars and kick the shit out of most other movies that have huge budgets. Flashback to 1999 when the little movie The Blair Witch Project came out. A film that was originally produced with around 16,000 dollars and blew everyone away. Then there is movies like the upcoming Jame’s Cameron’s Avatar which has a budget of 288,000,000 Washingtons. Man, we are all praying that movie will be good, not for our sake, but for his.

But I digress, apparently the movie Paranormal Activitiy, which is included in that low budget movie market, made with only 11,000 dollars, premiered at the Screamfest Film Festival in 2007 and at the Slamdance Film Festival in 2008, and has been released at limited theaters this month. The movie has been receiving extremely high ratings from fans and critics scoring a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. Continue reading

[New Writer] Erin Brooks

A few days ago I wrote my first review for Everyview as a guest. I enjoyed writing the in-depth review so much that Zac offered me a place here! I was honored! I have a little blog of my own where I get more personal about my life, but I couldn’t pass up this chance to be a part of the Everyview clan.

For those of you who don’t know me I am Erin Brooks, a 27 year old loyal house wife (by loyal I mean I watch Monday Night RAW for my husband when he is stuck at work and give him the lowdown), mother to 3 crazy cats, an artist, a baker and so much more. I have a love of entertainment, books and Sci-Fi.

Around here I am going to be informing you guys on TV shows, movies and books! I am always open to suggestions if you guys really want me to check something out!

Anyway that’s me!

Thanks you again Zac for this opportunity!

[Game Review] Doom (Xbox Live Arcade)

Some people may know about the Doom franchise because of the dreadful 2005 movie that was based roughly on the game series. Others might be more familiar with Doom 3 for the original Xbox, which garnered critical acclaim for its impressive graphics and scary atmosphere. But if you’re like me, you love the original Doom from 1993. Doom has been on the Xbox Live Marketplace for quite a while now, since 2006, but with Halloween coming up I think it’s only appropriate to pay homage to one of the most downright brutal games of the 90’s. The Five Worst Halloween Treats

It’s October, one of the greatest months of the year. Everything starts to calm down from the summer, but we haven’t yet hit the rush of the holiday season just yet. Also, Halloween! It’s the one holiday that, every year, children plan in advance for. Their costume, their route, what candy they want. It’s also an awful night to deliver pizza on, because you are nearly involved in almost seventeen vehicle/pedestrian collisions. So I thought for this month I would compile a few top 5 lists that are related to our favorite spooky holiday. Continue reading

[The Everyview Update] 10/04/09: Happy Fall!

Let me start off by apologizing for this edition of Everyview Update being so later (I’m actually writing it on the morning of the 5th), but like all responsible people I have an excuse. Last night Brandon Majors and I went on an Everyview date to the movie theater to catch Zombieland! By the time I got back I was too busy quoting Woody Harrelson to care about anything else, which is completely understandable.

That brings me to my next two points. First off, we got two new writers! John Rogers and Brandon Majors will now be writing for you guys here on the site, and I hope you like what they bring to the table. Along those same lines, we also got a Guest Review for the premiere of Stargate Universe from the very talented Erin Brooks.

My next point. Now that it’s finally Fall, we are going to start publishing some Halloween-themed reviews and articles. These will range from Top Five lists to reviews for scary movies and games and everything in between! We’ve got a lot planned, and I hope you enjoy the Autumn Content!

Enough jabber, onto the awards! The Weekly Awards are handed out to five very deserving blogs every week, so make sure you check them all out because they are all fantastic and more than worth your time.

  • The “Quick, Free Stuff!” Award goes to Snack Snoop! They’re giving away a fancy reusable bag to the reader with the best snack recipe.
  • The “Best New Feature” Award goes to SuperPhillip Central for the new feature called Rank Up! The premier installment lists the eight Mega Man X games from worst to best.
  • The “Fanciest Pants” Award goes to The Impulsive Buy for their review of Goya Cola Champagne!
  • The “Holy Shit, Caffeinated Beef Jerky?” Award goes to EDJunkie for the review of Perky Jerky! According to that review, the caffeinated beef jerky is actually really good.
  • The “Deep Fried Breakfast Sammich” Award goes to Freezer Burns for the video review of a Jimmy Dean’s Breakfast Sandwich, deep fried in Budweiser American Ale.

[TV Guest Review] Stargate Universe Premiere

Opening Statement:

I’ve been a Sci Fi fan as long as I can remember. It has been my escape from the world. When I was a teen I fell in love with a movie that I must have watched 30 times or more. This wonderful movie was Stargate! In 1997 Stargate SG-1 came to be, and it was a big hit. I didn’t really get into it ’til about a year ago (I know, shame on me). Since then I have seen every episode of SG-1, the SG-1 Movies and Stargate Atlantis multiple times and never seem to get tired of them. So when the news of SGU came around I got goose bumps and marked my calendar for the big event. Finally, last night, the season premiere aired! Continue reading

[Music Review] The Mars Volta “The Bedlam in Goliath”

Overview:

Most frequent Everyviewers may remember Clay’s review on the progressive rock band The Mars Volta’s newest album Octahedron. Well today, in the shadow of Halloween and with T.V. channels beginning their brutal rape of any and all things scary, I will be reviewing an album based on ghosts, Quija boards, and the afterlife. The album in question is the Volta’s fourth, and my personal favorite, The Bedlam in Goliath. Continue reading

Five Nintendo DS Games Everyone Should Own

Now that the Nintendo DSi is available, gamers everywhere are picking up their first dual screen gaming system and diving into the wonderful world of the Nintendo DS. With an overwhelmingly huge library of games, however, it’s easy for gamers to get lost when trying to pick out the right titles.

Below are five titles that everyone with a DS, any model, should own. Keep in mind the games on this list are five of the games that I believe every gamer with a DS should own, not a list of the five best DS games. If you have a different selection of games, feel free to call me an idiot, or, preferably, leave your games of choice in the comments section! Continue reading
