[Game Review] Dead Space Extraction (Wii)

I never played the original Dead Space on 360/PS3. It’s not that had no interest in the game, because I definitely did. I drooled at tons of screenshots, lustfully watched plenty of gameplay footage, and read a good amount of reviews. Everything I saw or read about the game definitely tickled my fancy, but for some reason I just never bought or rented it.

So when Dead Space Extraction, the Wii-Exclusive prequel, was announced I had very little interest in the game. Once it was revealed that the title would serve as a spooky and atmospheric On Rails Shooter, my ears perked up and I began developing an interest while the majority of Wii gamers scoffed at the Light Gun Style gameplay, calling it inferior and assuming it would be boring.

[Game Review] GT Pro Series (Wii)

Genre: Racing

Racing games are simple, fun, and give you immediate results. You don’t have to work through a number of complicated levels, with variables that you cannot control. You get a track, a vehicle, and opponents. Its about as straight forward as gaming gets. Nintendo’s Wii offers you the ability to control the action with an actual gaming wheel. So, automatically, you are given a unique gaming experience.

The only problem is that GT Pro Series otherwise plays like it could have been developed for Super Nintendo over a decade ago. The graphics are sub par, and it looks like a 32-bit system. The cars are chunky, bland, and non-descript. The race tracks are basic, and completely barren of any major graphic achievement. The graphics are the game’s major, and truly the only damning weakness. If you aren’t distracted by graphics that barely would’ve been revolutionary in 1993, then you won’t mind this game. The Top Five Simpson’s “Treehouse Of Horror” Segments

Anyone who knows me knows that since it first aired on The Tracey Ullman Show in 1987, I’ve found The Simpsons to be the greatest thing since sliced bread (sliced bread having been invented the previous winter). While the show has been average or worse for over a decade now, it still ranks as the greatest television program of all time in my eyes due to its flawless golden years.

Since Season Two, a Simpsonian staple has been its yearly Halloween episode entitled “Treehouse of Horror”, which features three short holiday themed segments. Well we here at Everyview have began doing various Halloween lists and I, ever the conformist, have decided to compile my top five favorite THOH segments of all-time.

After watching all episodes from up until I stopped buying the show’s DVD sets (post-season nine), compiling a list of 14 possible candidates whose potential chances ranged from “long shot” to “sure thing” and compiling three pages of notes (welcome to my Friday night, everyone), I have made my list of what I feel are the five most deserving segments. [Comedy Review] Craig Shoemaker Live: That’s a True Story

I was planning on writing a review on last night’s episode of Eastwick, but my husband and I were so exhausted that we couldn’t stay up. Why were we so exhausted you ask? Well from laughing so hard we almost peed ourselves that’s why (yes I am a lady and I can say that). And what made us laugh so hard you ask again? Craig Shoemaker Live: That’s a True Story! That’s what!

Craig Shoemaker has to be one of the funniest comedians I have seen in a long time. His jokes center around his life and truthful events that happen to him. He is very interactive with the audience which gives him bonus points in my book. Throughout the show he torments a soon to be bride about what her husband is really doing on his bachelor party! He also “stalks” a woman named Tina, as she goes to the bathroom (little does she know at the time that there are speakers in there). Continue reading →

[Movie Review] Whip It! (Theatrical)

This movie has been on my radar for a few months now, and I was surprised to see the horrific Box-Office performance it had its opening week. I’m not sure what the factor was. Here, you have a very positively reviewed film with an indie film darling, and a completely fresh movie.

I’m usually not one for movies with all-female or strong female casts, and that’s not because I’m sexist. It’s because, as a viewer, I have a tough time sympathizing (usually) with female characters. Probably because after 24 years on this earth, I still have no idea how they think. It makes it tough to have a visceral reaction in a lot of films due to that lag of knowledge of my opposite sex. [Movie Review] The Invention Of Lying (Theatrical)

Ricky Gervais is one of the funniest men alive, serving as creator and star of two fantastic television shows (The British version of The Office, Extras). Already a star in his native England (I assume anyway, I’m not a follower of English pop culture), he seems to be attempting to make it big in the American cinema industry, which was good news to me.

So, when the opportunity arose to see The Invention Of Lying, a film he starred in, co-wrote and co-directed, it seemed like it would be worth my $9.50 (seriously, fuck you, movie industry!) to make a casual stroll to the cineplex to see it.

[Drink Review] McDonald’s Iced Mocha

[TV Review] South Park (Season 13, Ep. 8)

I’m going to warn you right now. I think South Park is the single greatest TV show of ALL-TIME. It is the only show that, with each passing year, actually improves. I attribute that to Trey Parker and Matt Stone having not only brilliant comedic minds, but that they have refined their method of production in such a way that they can include the most current of topics into the show. With this, they make each season seem just as, if not more, relevant than the last.

They always push the envelope creatively, and even if you think you’ve seen a shitty episode or two, you haven’t. I’ve made that mistake, too. I get my hopes and expectations up so high that sometimes an episode falls a little flat. But go back and watch it again. Even a mediocre episode of South Park is better than even the best episodes of some other good shows. Continue reading →

[Concert Review] I Fight Dragons, Whole Wheat Bread, and MC Chris Live in Bloomington, IN

Rhino’s was the place to be Monday night with a thirteen dollar triple threat consisting of Chicago’s premiere Nintendo centric rock band, I Fight Dragons, Jacksonville Florida’s own dirty south punk band Whole Wheat Bread, and the nerdcore giant MC Chris!

We arrived at 7:30, the doors opened at 7:00, and the first band took the stage at 8:00, giving a good deal of time to meander around, check merch out and scope the local crowd. As eight approached, the stage was flooded with NES controllers, dance pads and a group of guys (and girls) wearing Justice League shirts. The group in question was I Fight Dragons, the Chicago based band with a pension for all things Nintendo and DC Comics. Continue reading →

[Doubleshot Movie Review] Zombieland (Theatrical)

In this Doubleshot Review, Everyview EIC Zac Pritcher and newcomer Brandon Majors (who is not related to Andrew) went on a romantic date to catch the highly anticipated Zombedy film Zombieland in theaters. Popcorn, soda pop, and blue slushies in-hand, the boys prepared for what they hoped would be the first successful mainstream zombie-comedy since Shaun of the Dead.
