For folks with a penis, John Mayer usually crops up as an artist who you’re a “homo” if you listen to. Not only do I disagree, but I feel that Mayer has gotten a short stick in terms of people’s general impression of him. His first major album, Room For Squares, broke him out into the mainstream, and it was based on a couple of singles that his entire future musical catalog was condemned to be frat  guy acoustic rock for girls. This impression couldn’t be farther from reality. Mayer has produced up until this year three quality albums out of three. His latest, Battle Studies, might in fact be his simplest effort yet, but the quality overall might be his most consistent since Heavier Things. Continue reading →

The Top Ten Video Games of the Decade (2000 – 2009)

It’s the end of the first decade of the New Millennium already. We’ve survived the Y2K bug, four years of George W. Bush, a terrorist attack on America, four more years of George W. Bush, Global Warming, the passing of icons such as Michael Jackson and Billy Mays, and what do we have to show for it?

Games. We’ve seen countless titles released for several systems. We’ve witnessed a generation’s death which birthed a fresh generation that then perished to make room for yet another generation. And we’ve played through all of this until our thumbs began to bleed. But what were the highlights of this decade? What were the best games from 2000 – 20009?

That’s something that we’ll never be able to agree on. In this post we have listed the Top Ten Video Games of the past decade as it pertains to six different members of the Everyview staff. [Film Review] Up In The Air

Movies that are topical without trying overtly to be are a rare breed.  They try too hard to have their fingers on the pulse and end up alienating their audience by slapping them in the face with patronizing themes and obvious developments. Up In The Air is not a film like that.

The film focuses on Ryan Bingham (George Clooney), a corporate mercenary who fly’s around the country doing the dirty work for companies during these tough economic times, laying off their workers for them. He lives a life of isolation, choosing and actually relishing in living a mostly anonymous life. He is a preferred customer at Airlines and Hotels across the country, and loves the perks that come with his loyalty. His company then decides to implement a new technology that will ground Ryan and possibly force him to develop *GASP* a normal, stay at home life. Continue reading →

[Food Review] Wendy’s Spicy Chicken Nuggets (UPDATED)

Wendy’s has the absolute best chicken nuggets around, no questions asked. And now, here recently, a new form of that unparalleled nugget has been introduced to a market starved for new flavors of processed chicken to dip into their Chocolate Frosties. And what better way to serve up a new variation of a classic nugget than by making it spicy?

I’m not going to lie, I was very excited to try these. As I’ve already made quite obvious, I love Wendy’s nuggets. I also love spicy foods, especially spicy chicken. However delicious my dreams of these warm little chicken nuggets were, the real life things are nothing short of a disappointment. Continue reading →

Ah, Christmas. Celebrating yon virgin Mary and sweet Baby Jesus. A time when people come together to show love and caring. The only day of the year when you get to give gifts to those near your heart. Most important, you get awesome presents!

Really whatever holiday you celebrate, I think you’ll agree that the winter holiday season is the best time of the year. Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Krampus, Bodhi, or Festivus, it doesn’t matter. Actually, a lot of those holidays don’t involve presents at all…

Anyway, for this edition of The Everyview Update, we want to know what you guys got from good ol’ Santy Claus or the Magical Hanukkah Fairy or whatever it’s called.

[Movie Review] Avatar (3D, Theatrical)

You know, few movies achieve the kind of buzz that Avatar has been creating for seemingly the entire decade. The buzz on James Cameron’s next project has been in the making for what seems like an eternity, so is the juice worth the squeeze?

The premise of the movie is actually pretty simple. An ex-Marine who has lost the use of his legs finds himself as an Avatar after the death of his brother, as a human mind in the body of one of Pandora’s Na’Vi, it’s native race. He finds himself torn between the two worlds, wishing his avatar life was his real life, and his real life the fantasy.

First and foremost, I will say this. If James Cameron doesn’t win every award for Best Director this year, there is a flaw in the system. This is one of the most ground breaking films to come out in the last twenty years, and it completely rewrites the book on what to expect from movies in the future. The special effects are absolutely mesmerizing for the entire run-time of nearly 3 hours, and thankfully never feel gimmicky or distracting. Continue reading →

[Tech News] RIM Apologizes for BlackBerry Network Crash

Yesterday (12/24/09) I was having unexplainable issues with my BlackBerry’s network. I couldn’t receive or send emails, couldn’t use Snaptu or Uber Twitter. Couldn’t access Pandora Radio. Couldn’t use Facebook or MySpace. Most importantly, I couldn’t access the internet. It turns out that I wasn’t the only one. No, not by a long shot. Apparently anyone and everyone with a BlackBerry, at least in the US, experienced the same frustrating issues with their network.

The cause? Well according the RIM, the company behind the popular Smart Phone, has just posted a public apology for the inconvenience as well as an explanation for why everything crashed over on BlackBerry.com. It turns out that the two new versions of BlackBerry messenger (5.0.0.55 and 5.0.0.56) had some sort of fault that caused a huge network outage.

The newest version, 5.0.0.57, is ready for download and fixes the issues with the two previous versions. RIM highly recommends all Berry users download it immediately to prevent future network crashes from occurring.

[Energy Drink Review] Sol Mate (Original)

Sol Mate is one of the most basic energy drinks I’ve ever consumed. It ditches the high levels of chemical enhancers and instead utilizes with a bare bones, all natural, organic formula composed almost entirely of sparkling Yerba Mate. For those of you (myself included) who have no idea, Yerba Mate is a cleansing herb native to Spain and is said to have a myriad of health benefits, and is very commonly used as an ingredient in modern energy drinks.

[Best “So Bad It’s Good” Movie of the Decade] “The Room”

Unable to shake my obsession with compiling end of the decade lists, I’ve decided to compile another. After taking a brief sabbatical to lick the wounds I endured via a string of grammatically poor and incorrectly assumptive insults from Dredg fans, I’m back with a new list which would likely be the bastard child created if my best movies and worst things of the decade lists had contraception free intercourse.

The result is this, my loving tribute to the 2003 film The Room, a film so startlingly incompetent in its execution it is one of the oh so rare entertainment nuggets that truly does have to be seen to be believed. Continue reading →
