As a child growing up in a very violent neighborhood, I was constantly facing difficult problems, the majority of which dealt with me not being able to find myself. All things said, what six year-old white kid has a firm grip on his identity in the first place? I feel comfortable that many of you faced the same tribulations as myself growing up, so I am not embarrassed to share with you some of the identity crisis I faced in my youth — I had a dog phase, thought I was a Ninja turtle, and even convinced myself I was an under-appreciated artistic genius. These were only mild hurdles in my journey of self discovery, as the biggest challenge I faced was gender confusion. Continue reading
[The Everyview Update] 2/1/2010
Happy February! Love is in the air and condom sales are skyrocketing this month thanks to Valentine’s day being right around the corner. Unfortunately not enough condoms are being sold, because I have a feeling teen abortion rates are going to jump by about 20% in March.
Anyway, here’s a look at some of the articles we have planned for this week.

[Energy Review] Neuro Fuel (Sugar Free)
Energy drink companies are all about formulating sugar free versions of their drinks that taste exactly like the regular ones. This is definitely a good thing, as there are people out there with diseases such as diabetes who can’t afford to intake any more sugar than is absolutely necessary, and an energy drink isn’t necessarily worth dying over.
A couple of weeks ago I posted a re-review for a drink called Neuro Fuel. This week I’m back with a review for that drink’s sugar free counterpart. Let’s see how the Sugar Free formula stacks up against the original. Continue reading
[Exclusive] Interview with John Wozniak from Marcy Playground (part 1)
We recently were given the chance to sit down with lead singer/guitarist/songwriter John Wozniak from the band Marcy Playground. Yes, they’re still around.
In fact, while they aren’t as big as they were in the ’90s, they are still extremely active. This year alone they are touring to support their fourth studio album, preparing a fifth, readying a multi-volume collection of rarities and b-sides, putting together a live DVD, and much much more.
Join me as John shares with us everything from his inspirations to his favorite road food in our massive two part interview. Continue reading
[Exclusive] Interview with John Wozniak from Marcy Playground (part 2)
This is part two of our interview. Find part one here.
Being a touring band, and even going international at one point in your career, you’ve obviously ran across tons of different bands and met many musicians that people might not normally know about. Of those bands, could you share with us some of your favorites that you think we should expose ourselves to?
Yeah! There’s a band from outside Reno, Nevada, and they’re called Nevada, that I think is amazing. Zak Domogalla, who is the lead singer/songwriter for that band, I think is an unbelievable songwriter. You can check their music out on MySpace, their MySpace is just myspace.com/nevadaband. I think they’re terrific. There’s a band from out near [Indiana] actually that… I’m trying to remember what the Hell they were called. Really, really good band. … Dammit. Umm… Well if I remember I’ll shoot you an email. Great band. Dang. Umm… Nope! It’s not coming to me, but they’re a very good band that we’ve run across lately that was really good.
Dylan and I are into anything new. We’re always amazed by some of the incredible local talent that ends up opening up for us. There’s so much talent out there these days that it’s unbelievable. Continue reading
[Movie Review] Hobgoblins 2
As a fan of both wise-ass comedy and trashy b-movies, it’s only natural for Mystery Science Theater 3000, a show about a man and two robots who hilariously poke fun at some of the worst movies of all time, to be one of my favorite television creations. While there’s certainly room to debate the worst movie ever shown on MST3K, my money is on Hobgoblins, a stunningly inept 1988 creature feature which character Tom Servo accused of giving him “current traumatic stress disorder.”
The film has earned itself a cult following, largely in part to the Mystery Science Theater send-up. To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the film, writer/director Rick Sloan, who’s actually gone on record declaring himself to be a crack addicted total idiot who had his brains replaced with rat droppings, filmed an alleged sequel called Hobgoblins 2. At the risk of summing up my review before it concludes, the movie sucks as bad as anything you’ve ever seen. Unfortunately, unlike the original, that’s not intended to be complimentary in any way. The 5 Most Underappreciated Actors in Hollywood
Let’s face it. Some of us go to the movies to see a specific actor on screen. But for every Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, there are lesser known actors who light up the screen just as, if not more, often. This is a list of those actors:
Colin Farrell
Yes, folks, I’m dead serious. And this isn’t because I have been a major fan of the guy since Hart’s War. Take a look at his filmography for a moment. There are a number of quality films on there, and in each of them Farrell has shined. Minority Report was his true breakout, and is one of the best films of the decade. A smaller film like Phone Booth showed his range, but it wasn’t until The New World that I really started to see Farrell as the incredibly gifted actor he is. In that film he gives such a nuanced performance it truly shows his development. His performance in In Bruges garnered him a Golden Globe, and his script selection seems to be much better than it was in the early 2000s. The sky is the limit for this talented Irishmen. [Game Review] Mass Effect (Xbox 360, PC)
System: Xbox 360 (Also on: PC)
Developer: BioWare
Publisher: Microsoft
Genre: RPG
In light of Bioware’s new title, Mass Effect 2, and the embarking of this noble gamer on a nonstop binge of the aforementioned game in the sake of this website, I’d like to take a step back and go over the first in this new space trilogy.
Mass Effect, spawned by Knights of the Old Republic creators Bioware, is the first in a planned trilogy of space video games. You take the role of one Commander Shepard, by either using the preset John, or devising your own spin on Shepard. You pick from a sort of amped up RPG class list — soldiers, archers, thieves, mages — but with a serious futuristic twist. Continue reading
[Music Review] “Fortress” by Protest The Hero (2008)
Many of you may have read my review of Canadian underground mathcore giants Protest the Hero, and their second studio album Kezia. Well I’m here today to spread the word of Fortress, the third and newest album by the band.
Released in 2008 Fortress is a smashing success the band. It marks a big step foreword from Kezia, but doesn’t stray away from their mathcore/hardcore niche. Upon first listening to this album I was torn. Kezia was a big deal for me, and Fortress at first sounds like a different band. I returned to the album some time later and gave it a full play through. Two words, instant classic. Continue reading
[Food Review] Banquet Microwavable Meals
Overview:
For those of you who have ever laid awake at night wondering if any company could ever depict what perpetual bachelorhood tastes like, I’m here to tell you the people behind Banquet Microwavable Meals have been perfecting the recipe since 1953. As someone who’s ingested pound after endless pound of such loser delights as bologna, Chef Boyardee and hamburger buns to keep himself alive, I can say with great confidence I haven’t encountered any dining experience more successful in reminding me that I am alone in this world. Continue reading
