I’m 20 years old. It’s a late Saturday night, the skies are clear, the air is warm, and adventure can be felt in the air. It’s the first night of the year that could be spent hanging out in a Rally’s drive through, smoking Black & Milds in a grocery store parking lot, or hanging out by a campfire with a harmonica and a Monster Energy Drink.

But I wasn’t doing any of that stuff. No. Instead, I was at my local Wal-Mart Supercenter anxiously awaiting midnight, the hour when Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver would officially go on sale.

[Food Review] Wendy’s Premium Fish Fillet

I’m not Catholic, but I love March, more specifically, Lent. You may be asking out loud “but Zackery, if you don’t believe in binge drinking, unprotected sex, and cursing for no apparent reason (all of which are common practices of the Catholic faith), then why would you care about Lent (the time of the year when the Catholic peoples quit eating certain foods for whatever reason)?”

The answer is simple, I love fish. You see, to serve the massive demographic of Catholics during this time of the year, fast food restaurants must accommodate their celebration of Jesus being stuck in a desert by serving fish. McDonald’s has their Fillet O’ Fish, BK has something similar, and Taco Bell has their new Shrimp Taco. Wendy’s? They’re offering the new Premium Fish Fillet.

[Movie Review] Alice in Wonderland 3-D

It’s commonplace in the Hollywood machine of today’s world for long standing classic source material to be “re-imagined” every decade or so. I’m sure it has quite a lot to do with making money and knowing that the product already has a core audience that will be interested in it no matter what, but it sure doesn’t lend itself much to the creative process. The latest of these re-imaginings was released a couple of weeks ago in the form of Alice in Wonderland.

Now, I know quite a few people who loathe anything Tim Burton does, and I can find merit in their claims. I have seen a large number of his films, and most of them seem to be cut from the exact same cloth. The imagery is always stunning, but most of the films seem to spin their wheels quite a lot while trying to show us so much of the beautiful scenery. Continue reading →

[DVD Review] Breaking Bad: The Complete Second Season

Overview:

I’ve already detailed my love of the AMC series Breaking Bad in previous posts, so I’ll stop the whole backstory schpeal and just state that the Complete Second Season is now on DVD and it’s awesome.

Review:

Season two begins at the exact location season one ended, as chemist turned meth dealer Walt (Bryan Cranston) and his partner Jesse (Aaron Paul), have witnessed a brutal and meaningless attack orchestrated by their new distributor Tuco (Raymond Cruz) on one of his associates. This sets in motion the overlapping theme from the end of season one that Walt and Jesse have gotten in way over their heads. Continue reading →

[Energy Drink Review] Rockstar Energy Cola

So, on a pit stop to my local gas station I got the bright idea to splurge on some energy drinks. I looked at the cold case of Monster, Red Bull, NOS — all the usuals. But I was struck by two new cans in the mix. The folks at Rockstar Energy have launched two new energy drinks in Cola and Lemonade form. Having never had Red Bull’s soda, I thought to give this and its yellow friend a try (plus they had a coupon for fifty cents off so what the hey!). [Music Review] Vermillion Lies “What’s In The Box?”

Rarely do I ever buy an album without listening to it first, and when I do it usually sucks more than your mother (UP TOP!). Luckily, I recently found one album that breaks the mold and I couldn’t be happier.

What’s In the Box? is the second full length album from sisters Kim and Zoe Boekbinder, known as Vermillion Lies, and it is fantastic. I had checked out their music on a whim because I am a fan of the “punk cabaret” stylings of The Dresden Dolls front woman Amanda Palmer, who Vermillion Lies previously opened for. [The Everyview Update] Under Old Management

Some of our regular readers may have noticed that I was gone most of last week, and in my absence our dedicated editor Casual Clayton “Joel the Jokester” Cunningham took over the site. Surprisingly to me, he was very humble about taking on these new responsibilities.

Anyway, regardless of how much everyone on the internet loves good ol’ Clay, I’m back in command. Don’t go running off on me, I’ll try to be as effective as Clay by making sure an astounding one review gets posted each week, unless he decides to intervene by writing a review of No More Heroes 2 while enjoying himself in Nashville, Tennessee like I had to do because productivity wasn’t staying optimal.

Regardless, things should be getting back to normal now.

[Games] Take a Ride in the PokeVan

It really is quite amazing what you can accomplish at two o’clock in the morning when you’ve got a backpack full of spray paint, a trashy multicolored van, and an itchy case of PokeFever. Creating this gorgeous work of art took about three hours, and it was totally worth it.

The majority of the art was done by my good friend Zack McDonald, with highlights and accents added by yours truly, and the trashy van was provided by Thomas Campbell.

[Game Review] No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle (Wii)

I have always wanted Quentin Tarantino to make a video game. The way he makes his films, with over-the-top violence, plenty of sex, ass loads of awesomeness, and way too much dialogue would make the perfect video game script.

However, that’s not likely to happen any time soon. So instead, us gamers have to look to Suda 51 and Grasshopper Manufacture to get our overdose of interactive bad assery, and Suda’s latest masterpiece, No More Heroes 2, is more than enough for any gamer craving something out of the ordinary in the best way imaginable.
