[Music Review] “The Tennessee Fire” by My Morning Jacket

About six years ago, after a former friend (former because he would later introduce me to Dredg, for which he will never be forgiven) played me portions of the album It Still Moves by Kentucky based rock/folk-rock/folk-country/alt-country act My Morning Jacket, I dismissed it as being too “twangy” for my taste.

Then, about a year ago, after I had officially grown weary of nearly every album I owned, I decided to give MMJ another spin, and quickly realized that five years earlier, I was a complete fucking moron. This anger towards myself has only built since then, and came to a head recently when I purchased, and subsequently fell head-over-heels in love with their nearly perfect 1999 debut album The Tennessee Fire. Here’s to making up for lost time. Continue reading

[Drink Review] Anti-Hangover: Resurrection

What greater American past time is there than consuming large quantities of alcohol in a short time frame? It’s why college was invented, after all. For almost 4 years now (save the old man jokes) I have been able to legally consume these adult beverages to my heart’s/liver’s content, and at the same time shave years off my life expectancy. But, there is one pesky little problem when it comes to drinking. That damn next day hangover. They even made an extremely popular movie about it! I think it was called The Last Mimzy.

Well, the folks over at Anti-Hangover decided they were tired of waking up with ridiculous cotton mouth and a pounding headache, and they set out to solve the world’s hangover problems, and they released this drink called Resurrection. Continue reading

[Movies] The Beatles Biopic Finally Has A Cast!

In recent years, films chronicling the good and bad times of musicians have been lighting up the movie theater. Everyone from Ray Charles to Johnny Cash to Bob Dylan. With the recent release of their Rock Band and insane global popularity, it’s time The Beatles received the Silver Screen Treatment, and it was recently announced that the Liverpool Lads had finally been cast for their upcoming film directed by Sam Mendes. John Lennon will be played by Jim Carrey, Paul McCartney by Forest Whitaker, George Harrison by Robert Downey Jr., and Ringo Starr by Jason Bateman. The film is scheduled to begin shooting toward the end of 2010.

[Energy Drink Review] Monster DUB Edition

Monster DUB Edition is essentially a special edition of Monster Energy Drink made in collaboration with DUB magazine (if you don’t know what that is, you’re likely white or Chinese), an automotive publication that takes pride in providing content composed of pimped out “rides.” I could add a few more “fresh” vernaculars, but my grasp of the various methods of “phat” slang is severely limited. Hopefully this drink will fix that.

Straight from the can:

The Monster Energy DUB Edition is more than just another energy drink. It’s high performance fuel for the true baller. Made by the crew at Monster Energy, DUB Edition is optimized for the mobilized. A customized formula in collaboration with the kings of customization.

I’m not necessarily sure what a “true baller” is, but I know it’s something good. From now on, this is the only thing I’m ever going to drink. It’s time to “get retarded.” “Bitches.” Continue reading

[Podcast Review] Jordan, Jesse GO!

Overview

Jordan, Jesse GO! is, simply put, two friends and occasionally a guest talking. It’s the brainchild of public radio host Jesse Thorn (aka America’s Radio Sweetheart) and sketch comedian and Fuel TV host Jordan Morris (aka Boy Detective).

Each week on the show the two friends discuss anything and everything including Jesse’s early life as the only white inner city youth in San Francisco to Jordan’s passionate love for obscure video games and everything in between. One question still remains. Is it entertaining? Continue reading

[Music Review] MGMT “Congratulations”

In this day of the internet and the public’s insatiable appetite for that which is not yet universally available, I was recently able to preview MGMT’s second full length album Congratulations via their website. The album is scheduled for a physical release on April 13th, 2010, and I am lucky to get a couple of weeks head start listening the Hell out of this thing, thanks in part because the whole record leaked and they were cool enough to just make it available to fans early.

For those uninitiated, MGMT are originally a Brooklyn based duo whose music is an interesting exercise dabbling in electro-pop-indie-psychadelic tendencies. Their 2007 debut Oracular Spectacular blew up, which took them to opening up for acts like Radiohead and Paul McCartney. They even wrestled with the French Government over the unlawful use of a song off of the album. So yeah, pretty popular. Continue reading

[Energy Drink Review] Rockstar Punched (Tropical Punch)

I’m not a huge fan of Rockstar at all. In fact, alongside Amp and Red Bull, Rockstar is one of my least favorite energy drink companies. Their inability to make consistently pleasing products with even a trace of quality really makes it hard for me to want to give the company my hard earned cash.

Alas, I found myself standing in line at my college eatery the other day, craving fruit punch, and I notice they have started to stock Rockstar Punched. I decided to give the drink a chance. Continue reading

[Tech Review] HTC Hero (Sprint)

The HTC Hero is the first Android Smartphone available for Sprint. Apparantly, Sprint didn’t feel that the Open Source operating system from Google was quite adequate enough at first, so they waited for it to grow. The more they waited, the better it got, making their first Android phone one hell of a Smartphone.

I’m coming to the Hero from a BlackBerry Curve 8330, which I loved dearly and still miss on the occasion. The problem was, I was ready for an upgrade. I figured out every trick the BlackBerry could do, and the truth was I got tired of it. I was ready for something new. I thought about getting another BlackBerry, but what good would that do? RIM has refused to update their OS in any major way for over 10 years, meaning I would be getting the same phone inside of a different case.

So, I decided to spend $500 on this phone, the HTC Hero. And dammit, that was an excellent idea. Continue reading

[Food Review] Wild Cherry M&M’s

Overview:

When I saw Wild Cherry M&M’s at a local shopatorium, I thought to myself, “boy, that sounds like a horrific combination of flavors.” But, being the trooper that I am, I decided to give them a go so as to give the Everyview public my honest opinion.

And honestly, they suck.

Review:

The candies come in two shades of red. One is dark, one is lite, and both are vile. The product is milk chocolate, but combined with the cherry shell, it tastes more like dark chocolate, which I hate. Continue reading

[TV Review] Breaking Bad: Season Three Premier

Overview:

Last week I reviewed the second season DVD of Breaking Bad and promised I would follow it up with a review of Sunday’s Season Three premier assuming people cared enough about the initial review to warrant a follow-up.

Well, they didn’t, but I’m gonna review it anyway.

Review:

I will assume anyone reading this is familiar with what has transpired in previous episodes so I won’t go into too great of detail with a series recap. It is, however, quite apparent with this episode that the show clearly seems to be headed in a new direction. While I have openly stated my skepticism that such a shift would work while simultaneously maintaining true with the series’ original premise, I must say Sunday’s episode was very effective in getting me excited to see what Bad will pull off next. Continue reading
