[Game Review] Toy Soldiers (Xbox Live)

System: Xbox Live Arcade (Exclusive)
Developer:
Signal Studios
Publisher:
Microsoft
Genre:
Tower Defense

This year has seen the release of some crazy things for the Xbox Live arcade market. Indie games, puzzle games, 2-d games, you name it they’ve probably got it. One game that really caught my eye was Signal Studio’s Toy Soldiers.

Released at the beginning of March, Toy Soldiers brought a handful of achievements and a few nifty avatar items (if those are your thing) along with a rather easy to play and mindlessly fun game.

Sparkling Mixed Berry THiNQ Energy Drink Review on Caffeine Critic!

There are two kinds of energy lovers out there. The first type is the person who loves gaming, skating, free running, biking, staying up late, yelling, and moving a lot in general, all of the time. I am usually this kind of person (though I admit that I cannot skate or free run). The other side would be the person who has to wake up early for work, has an important job that pays well, maybe has a young family, fancy car, and enjoys feeling recharged and energized for the entire day. I will probably never have a decent job, fancy car, or family of my own.

[Drink Review] Sidral Mundet Apple Soda

This is the first experience I’ve ever had with an authentic Mexican soda. In fact, the only foreign soft drinks I’ve ever had are those Asian beverages with the glass ball in the plastic cap (If you know what I’m talking about, congratulations on being awesome). Anyway, when someone representing Sidral Mundet, an authentic apple-flavored Mexican soft drink, told me the company needed American feedback on the product because the company is wanting to expand their demographic into the States, I was pleased to be of service.

I just recently got my bottles of Sidral Mundet, alongside a nifty little reusable shopping bag that was thrown in (thanks guys!). The sent two flavors, a cider-colored one and a light green one. Since the darker amber cider-like liquid didn’t come labeled with a subtitle, I figured it would be best to start with it, and I’ll get around to the Manzana Verde one soon after.

Bottoms up.

[Movie Review] Splice (2010)

Splice is a tricky, tricky film. While some advertisements would lead you to believe it’s a horror movie that focuses on the simple scares of stuff popping out from the darkness accompanied by loud, almost verbose music, those advertisements are deceptive, as Splice is actually a very well crafted film that is thought provoking and even somewhat topical.

I would imagine most people who are very interested in this film are because of the way it was marketed. It’s not a slasher movie, it’s not a monster movie. It’s a science fiction horror film, and it wears those hats very blatantly once the movie begins. The tone of the film is never to scare you by simply startling you, it’s one that requires a bit of thinking to go along with its ride.

[TV Review] Breaking Bad: Season Three Finale

Overview:

I’ve grown tired of reviewing Breaking Bad because doing so brings in no traffic and ultimately proves to be a waste of my time. With that in mind, I vowed I would only review Sunday’s season finale if I found the episode to be so engaging, my overwhelming sense of self-importance wouldn’t allow me to keep my opinions to myself.

Oh, well. It’s not as if I have anything better to do

Crunk!!! Stix, Reviewed on Caffeine Critic!

Here’s a portion of the full review:

A good example of a great energy powder would be Nuclear Energy, which comes in three flavors that are all highly enjoyable. An example of a very bad one would be Encaff’s Black Cherry Energy Stix, which is truly one of the worst products I’ve ever endured. And do you want to know the first thing I noticed about Crunk!!! Stix? The packaging bares the same logo as Encaff, which immediately scared me. Cross your fingers, this could be bad.

[Video Game News] Telltale Announces Back To The Future Video Games

I don’t play video games, but if I did, I imagine the only thing that could trump my excitement about this news would be the announcement of a Marvin Berry & the Starlighters reunion tour.

According to this site, Telltale Games (makers of a game or two I’m sure some of you have played/heard of) are releasing an episodic game based on Back To The Future, the single greatest achievement in cinematic history. I checked out of the video game scene after Wild Gunman, but this news is enough to even get my heart racing at about 88 MPH [I really wish I could close with a better reference than this, but I’m pressed for time (insert even lamer and more obvious DeLorean joke here)].

Steak ‘n Shake Spicy Chipotle SteakBurger

Steak ‘n Shake finally got on board of the specialty burger boat, and have been working with a menu that has a variety of options, including the Spicy Chipotle Burger.

While delicious, this cheeseburger provides no real discernible spice, but does pack enough tangy flavor to make it recommendable for anyone tired of the normal cheeseburger or bacon cheeseburger parade. The Spicy Chipotle comes with peppers, onions, and a chipotle sauce. All three of those things blend to create a truly delicious, if not slightly underwhelming, steakburger. Continue reading

[Music Review] New Pornographers “Together”

Canadian outfit  New Pornographers reassemble the ensemble for their 2010 album Together, a record that is a shining example of upbeat, positive, poppy music still containing substance amidst the brilliant hooks and gorgeous melodies.

Together at its core is a series of midtempo songs that seem much larger than they actually are. The New Pornographers have long been an eccentric blend of pop music with epic sensibilities, and this album proves to be a consistant collection of songs that provide new layers as they are listened to again and again.
