[Energy Review] PowerBar Energy Gel Blasts

PowerBar is well known across the fitness world for their energizing snackfoods, and they seem to be held in pretty high regards and trusted by most of the active community. Ask anyone who’s into cycling, long-distance running, hiking, or weight lifting what a good brand is for an energy bar and chances are they’ll refer you straight to PowerBar.

Energy Gel Blasts are a new product from PowerBar, and are much different from their standard grain-filled candies. These things are more akin to fruit gushers than a candy bar, and seem to be perfect for quick energy when you don’t have time to stop and eat. Just pop one or two in your mouth, chew and swallow. That easy. But how well do they really work?

[Film Review] Inception *NO MAJOR SPOILERS*

“Are you watching closely?”

I might be borrowing a line from Christopher Nolan’s last non-Batman film The Prestige, but that dialogue applies to this film as well. You will watch closely for about two and a half hours, and if you give your imagination up, Nolan and Company will whisk you away on one of the finest cinematic journeys ever brought to the screen.

Every two or three years, Christopher Nolan graces our local cinemas with his latest movie. And every two or three years, Christopher Nolan crafts the best movie of that particular year. He is, without question, the most reliable director working today, and not because he just makes good movies. Plenty of directors make good movies. Some of them even flirt with greatness. But Nolan elevates himself above words like “great” and “amazing”, and instead deserves praise like “Film God” and “Movie Genius”.

[The Top Five] Reasons Not to Dump Your Wii Just Because Nintendo Announced the 3DS

The title pretty much says it all.

Ever since the announcement of the 3DS, some Nintendo fans have been bringing up a silly argument in message boards. They feel, for whatever reason, that because the 3DS has 3D, superior graphical capabilities, and tilt and gyro control just like the Wii, that Nintendo’s current home system is inadequate and deserves to be pulled from their entertainment system shelves and tossed in the garbage.

What?

Here are just five reasons why everyone who has made that argument needs to step back, take a breath, and reevaluate their stance.

[TV News] Is Beavis and Butt-Head set to return to MTV?

Courtesy: NY Post

In news that excites me beyond belief, it’s being reported that Mike Judge is scheduled to bring his beloved buffoons back to MTV for a multiple episode run. Reports indicate that Beavis and Butt-Head will stay much the same as they already are, except the videos they comment on will be new.

This could be epic, since Mike Judge is set to oversee the entire thing. That guy has one of the most underrated comedic minds of the last decade-plus.

Anyone else excited about this?

[Food Review] Oreo Brownie

When asked what their favorite part of the Oreo is, 99.95% of the Earth’s population will say the cream, while the other .05% are nay-saying bastards who claim they prefer the chocolate just for the sake of being unbearable douchebags who naysay for no better reason than making everyone listen to how “opinionated” they are.

Knowing this, it seems puzzling to me that the people at Oreo would set out to appease these idiots, as the brownie is much too chocolaty for its own good. There are small sections of cream spread throughout the surface, but it’s hardly noticeable. In fact, if for some bizarre reason I had decided to eat blindfolded, I am relatively certain I wouldn’t have been able to detect any cream at all.

[Energy Drink Review] Ol’ Glory

us army energy drink

By Americans, for Americans!

I’ve reviewed budget drinks before, and rarely are any of them any good. I entirely expected to use the Army recruiting ad to enlist myself, go overseas, and pray that someone would drop a bomb on me, shattering my body into a million pieces so I wouldn’t have to remember how awful this stuff was. Somehow though, Ol’ Glory managed to surprise me with what is actually a pretty good energy drink. Partner that with its excellent value and this is a product I can wholeheartedly recommend. Just poor it out of that ridiculously blatant can if you plan on walking around a neighborhood with a large Mexican or Asian population. They’ll just assume you’re a racist bigot.

[Restaurant Review] Kringle’s Kafe’

If you were to guess what type of eatery Kringle’s was, chances are you’d assume they offered some type of seasonal meal options like honey ham, yams, green beans, fruit cake, and maybe even some type of pie. I mean, what else would you expect from a restaurant with such a vibrant Christmas theme?

Once you’re inside the illusion of a jolly winter holiday theme is pumped to the max, with seasonal decorations and paintings all over the place. There is even a giant tyrannical statue of Santa Claus himself, watching out over the dining room making sure all of the kids on his turf are behaving themselves, menacingly silent but always ready to pounce on his first unsuspecting victim.

[Game Review) Red Dead Redemption (Xbox 360, PS3)

System: Xbox 360, PS3
Developer:
Rockstar San Diego/North
Publisher: Rockstar Games
Genre: Action Adventure

Earlier in the year Rockstar hit the dusty trail with what was sure to be their new giant, Red Dead Redemption. The old western “GTA Goes West” is just that, a sandbox action game set in a fictitious area on the US/Mexico border circa 1910. The Old West is a dying place, industrial revolution, Federal government, and all sorts of new found trickery and deceit have made their way across the Mississippi and into Rockstar’s final bastion for Cowboys, Indians, and outlaws.

The game starts off by introducing us to John Marston, our stoic cowboy anti-hero who is being lead off a boat into a small town, Blackwater. The cutscene continues with two men, clad in suits, bowlers, and sporting badges, escorting John to an expecting locomotive, with a trio sharing a few back and forths. Jon takes a long train ride far into the heart of the state, all the while hearing conversation from two snoody rich ladies, and a young woman talking to a priest. After following a bit more of this linear, cutscene-infused prologue before Rockstar cuts you lose into the Old West.

[Tech Review] iPhone 4

It’s finally here!  Following a few mental debates about whether or not to stick with Apple I decided to go with an iPhone 4 as my new choice in mobile devices, and I am not disappointed at all! After having the iPhone 3G for two years I was definitely ready for an upgrade. To say the least, the iPhone 3G has its flaws and, minor though they are, I was really starting to get sick of them. The iPhone 4 improves on almost every aspect and I’m going to share a few of these new features.
