[Book Review] “Resident Evil: Caliban Cove” by S.D. Perry

Over nine long months ago I published our most recent book review for one Resident Evil: The Umbrella Conspiracy, and immediately after I started reading Caliban Cove, which is the second book in the series and the first ever all original novel based on the outstanding series of video games. No, that’s not a typo. I’ve been reading this book for nine months. Many of you may know that nine months is also the amount of time a woman holds a fetus in her womb.

That’s also a long time to read a single book; especially a 200-page book written by a science fiction author who specializes in adapting popular franchises into novel form. It really shouldn’t have taken me so long, especially considering I read the final 100 pages earlier today. There are really two main reasons it took so long. Number 1: I took it to work and left it in my locker, only sporadically reading it on breaks. Number 2: It was pretty boring.

[Drink Review] Bossa Nova: Goji Berry with Tart Cherry

A while back I posted a review for my first ever Bossa Nova drink, and I was very impressed with it. So impressed in fact, that instead of drinking the rest of the samples Bossa Nova sent me, I instead stocked up on the Mangosteen flavor I reviewed, and have been drinking that until today, when I finally ran out.

Now I’m moving on to the next flavor, carefully chosen by blindly grabbing around inside of my mini fridge and taking out the first one I touched, Goji Berry with Tart Cherry. I was actually pretty disappointed with my selection, only because I was in a very Blueberry-y mood. Oh well, there’s nothing I could’ve done about it.

[Unfairly Ridiculed Alternative Lifestyles Review] Sleeping in a Sleeping Bag

Overview:

For much of my life I have slept in a sleeping bag. Not simply on the rare occasions in which I would actually go camping, but on regular nights when I would sleep indoors. This was never something I did just for the sake of being weird as has been suggested, but because I genuinely believed it to be the most comfortable way to sleep. Believing in this school of thought firmly, I always assumed I would be able to convert my friends, or at the very least, not have them snicker at and mock me for how I chose to live my life.

Of course, I failed to take into consideration that most of the people I would consider to be “good” friends unfortunately are people who seemed to live so far up their own assholes it’s borderline stunning that oxygen was able to reach their lungs. It was enough to make me give up on spreading the word forever.

Well detractors be damned. After trying to abandon the bag for a short period of time, I’ve finally returned to my preferred way of life, and it’s my hope I can not only convince people this will help you achieve the best night’s sleep of your life, but also train them how to properly deal with the walking undead who take their inability to rest out on those of us who are just trying to live an honest life. [Energy Drink Review] Crunk!!! (Original)

A while back I reviewed a product called Crunk Stix. I didn’t like them. I thought there was a decent amount of potential behind them, but energy powders are very similar to energy shots before they were perfected. The idea is awesome: super portable and convenient energy in a similar form factor to Pixi Stix. The problem? Awful aftertaste and bitterness plague what would otherwise be a revolutionary energy product.

Anyway, along with the Stix, Crunk sent me a case full of different flavors of their drink. I’ve been slowly working my way through it, tasting each flavor. I’m about to go through my last can of the original flavor, making this the perfect time to review it. I’ve experienced it several times, so I’ve got a pretty solid grasp of how it performs.

Readers, I ask you this simply because I am an incompetent moron who can’t think of original jokes: Is it time to get “Crunk?”

[Movie Review] The Social Network (2010)

David Fincher has a real penchant for telling thoroughly engrossing stories. His filmography reads like a Dean’s List of phenomenal films, stuff ranging from the dark and moody Seven, to the super-charged and testosterone-filled Fight Club, and the cerebral and tension-filled Zodiac, Fincher has repeatedly told stories that feel like events.

The Social Network is no different. In fact, it could perhaps be Fincher’s greatest overall work, as it both captures and transcends the creation of popular megasite Facebook.com (speaking of which, be a fan of our page).

The film is the true story revolving around the creation of the incredibly popular website, and the main character of the film is the infamous Mark Zuckerberg, creator and founder of the famed social networking website. Zuckerberg is played by Jesse Eisenberg (The Squid and the Whale, Zombieland), and we are immediately thrust into a conversation that on the surface could be just like any other disagreement a guy and a girl have had at a bar. Eisenberg’s Zuckerberg comes off as condescending, if not creepily confident in himself and his skills.

The film is a fascinating, at times tremendously engrossing, portrait of a brief period of time in recent history that has made a surprising impact in pop culture worldwide. Fincher lets the tension build and build throughout the movie, and the structure of the film was somewhat surprising to me.

[Game Review] Alan Wake (Xbox 360)

Genre: Action Thriller

When Alan Wake was first announced, gamers were ecstatic. It looked to be a unique, refreshing and innovative story-driven game with a fantastic premise, creepy environments, and some very good ideas. Then the game, for whatever reason, failed to find a publisher. Remedy had a decent amount of support and hype behind their game, and I never quite understood why no publisher had scooped up the rights for what was clearly a very promising title. The game fell out of the media’s eye and off of the gamers’ radars, presumably falling into development limbo.

After some amount of time passes without hearing any word on Wake, it explodes back onto the scene with news of finally securing a publisher, and that publisher was Microsoft. Armed with a new partner, Remedy was finally ready to release their game.

[Food Review] Sunchips (Monterey Jack and Sundried Tomato)

It is a chip made from the sun! Ok, no it isn’t, but Sun Chips have been around for a while, and are know as a healthier alternative to the traditional potato chip.

The company, which is under the portfolio of Frito-Lay Inc. in Texas, has teamed up with the sub giant, Subway, to produce an exclusive flavor for all the shops. This is going along side the Subway Fiery Foot Long promotion and all the chip bags contain a game code for it. I recently purchased these to add to the free sub I earned with my Subway points.

The claims on the package are that the chips have a great multigrain taste. I had to agree, the multigrain gives a nutty flavor that is almost as pleasant as the texture it gives. The next claim is each 1 oz. serving has 18g of whole grains which have been known as part of a healthy diet to reduce the risk of heart disease.

[Drink Review] Sunkist Solar Fusion

Energy sodas aren’t exactly the fastest growing phenomenon in the drink industry, but that doesn’t keep the big beverage companies, who deem them as more accessible than regular energy drinks, from trying them out. Coke has Vault, Pepsi has Pepsi Max, and now Dr. Pepper/Seven-Up offer the latest take on the energy soda in the form of Sunkist Solar Fusion.

Solar Fusion is a Tropical Mandarin flavored soda with added caffeine and B vitamins. Sunkist is most well-known for their orange soda, which is absolutely delicious. However, not every Sunkist drink is worth drinking. Their Peach, Grape and Diet Lemonade flavors are all pretty awful, but they’ve also got Cherry Limeade, Pineapple and Strawberry which are pretty solid drink. How does Solar Fusion stack up to the rest of the Sunkist family?

[TV Review] $#*! My Dad Says Pilot Episode

Overview:

Like 1,724,133 other people, we here at the Everyview Network became avid followers of Shit My Dad Says, a Twitter account started by a writer named Justin Halpern, documenting hilarious observations made by his cranky and politically incorrect father Sam. The ramblings on an angry, yet noticeably intelligent old man made for a genuinely gut-busting read.

Well, the phenomenon became so widespread, it lead to a book, and now a television show on CBS with William Shatner as the cantankerous father, renamed Ed Goodson. If you’re anything like me, you’d be worried that such an explosively funny entity would have its balls ripped right off when placed on a major network and the end result would be a lame waste of time.
