[The Everyview Update] 07/05/09

Hey guys, hope everyone had a happy holiday! Not really any site updates to talk about this week, but I will tell you that we’re getting ready to have a small contest. It’ll be an easy contest, and a couple of people are guaranteed to win a delicious candy bar, but that’s all I’m saying for now. It’s nothing big, but it’s a contest regardless.

But other than that there’s really nothing else to talk about. Have a great night and, as always, keep reading Everyview!

[DVD Review] Young & Handsome: A Night With Jeff Garlin

garlin Overview:

For years, I have enjoyed the work of Jeff Garlin as Larry David’s manager on “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” arguably the best American comedy series of the past decade. He has a very likable screen presence which plays off the curmudgeon brilliance of  David quite nicely. So when I saw Netflix was streaming his new stand-up DVD “Young & Handsome” a week before it hit stores, I was very eager to view it.

Sadly, while Garlin’s likability is still very present on stage, much of “Curb’s” hilarity isn’t. “Young & Handsome” is occasionally amusing but never hilarious, at times a bit tedious, and it lacks the polished feel you’d expect from a stand-up concert DVD. Continue reading

[Food Review] McDonald’s Angus Deluxe Burger

McdonaldsangusboxOverview:

I don’t eat McDonald’s too often. You see, I used to work for the fast food giant. It’s not that anything particularly gross ever went on behind the scenes, but after eating nothing but McDonald’s for lunch over a span of 3 months, it just loses any appeal it had before.

But now that they’ve finally decided to add a new high quality line of  burgers to their stale menu, I can’t help but be curious. And as our friends at GrubGrade have pointed out, the last time McDonald’s released a new burger was in 2001 with the Big N’ Nasty. I mean Tasty. Whatever, they suck. Continue reading

[Movie Review] Public Enemies (Theatrical)

public_enemies_johnny_deppOverview:

So, as you may have noticed, and as I so clearly pointed out in my review, the Summer of 2009 has blown ass. At least in terms of movies. It has been a hollow shell of a blockbuster movie season, with dud after dud pervading our theaters.

It’s to be expected that movies might not quite live up to expectations. However, this summer has been one to absolutely RAPE expectations. Anyone who saw Transformers 2, and read my review knows how I felt about that abomination.

But, today, July 1st 2009, was the day I had my eye on all summer. And purely because of the release of Public Enemies. Continue reading

[Everyview Doubleshot: Music Review] Wilco (The Album)

wilcothealbumWe’re trying something new here on Everyview, and if you think past reviews have been too long, you haven’t seen anything yet.

Contributors Clay Cunningham and Andrew Majors are both avid Wilco fans, and both wanted to review the band’s latest, “Wilco (The Album),” and were both too petty to just let the other one have it. So, what we’ve done is combined them into the first ever “Everyview Doubleshot,” a format we basically stole from our friends at we-rate-stuff.

So while it may be pointless to essentially run the same review from two different vantage points, both contributors clearly feel very strongly about this new work and have several varied reasons why you should check it out. And if reading both reviews  simultaneously seems to be too daunting a task, feel free to take a break and come back at a later time. Our stats look better that way. Continue reading

[The Everyview Update] 6/28/09

We’ve got a couple of new features to announce this week. Some of you may have noticed that we have incorporated a rating system of 5 stars at the bottom of each post. These stars ARE NOT our scores. The stars are there for you to rate each article, whether it be an editorial, news, or a review, and help give us some extra feedback so we can figure out what you like to read.

Also, we have brought back the categories section. Pick what you want to read about in the list of categories to the left, click it, and see only posts that fall under that topic. We did this because we know not every movie buff cares about the latest game releases, and not every energy drink addict cares about the latest CDs.

I’d also like to remind all registered members to upload a custom photo through their Everyview dashboard.

Special thanks to GoNintendo for featuring our The Conduit review and pushing traffic!

[Music Review] The Mars Volta “Octahedron”

Music Review Mars VoltaOverview:

Since their inception, The Mars Volta have proven to be one of the more conflicting bands of the modern era. After splitting up underground punk heroes At The Drive-In, principal musicians Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez kicked off TMV’s career with 2003’s sprawling masterpiece “De-Loused in the Comatorium,” only to follow it with 2005’s “Frances The Mute,” a self-congratulatory piece of shit made by people who were far too pleased with their own “unique” vision. The albums that followed, 2006’s “Amputechture” and last years “The Bedlam in Goliath” fell somewhere in between. They possessed moments of genuine inspiration, but didn’t possess the overall charm of the band’s debut. Continue reading
