newradicalsmaybeyouvebeenbrainwashedtooLet’s face it. There are always going to be bands who hit the airwaves with a catchy tune, and then fade as if they never existed in the first place. These types of acts are a dime for twelve (is that how it goes?)

In the mid to late 90s, there were a shocking amount of these bands on radio stations all over the nation. Every week, it seemed, there was another catchy tune, only to be replaced by two more the next week. [Music Review] The Decemberists “The Hazards of Love”

The Decemberists, yet another of my more recent musical discoveries, released “The Hazards of Love” earlier this year, and having just been turned on to them, I just checked it out. “Wow” is the quickest way to describe this album.

There aren’t a ton of young bands out there who could produce a concept album like this and have it not suck. Listening to it the first time around, I was completely blown away by the structure of the album. It’s not just a collection of songs, it’s actually written in such a way that there is a story within the album. This is Pink Floyd kind of shit, and to say The Decemberists have hit a home run here would be an understatement. There isn’t a hit in baseball that describes this album.

Scribblenauts is the newest title from 5th Cell, the same team behind the clever and creative DS game entitled Drawn to Life, a platformer in which you drew your own characters and lots of your own items.

Their newest title is one of the most innovative and creative game concepts ever devised, which is what helped the game earn the loads of hype and also earned the E3 “Best of Show” award, making it the first handheld title to ever be given the coveted title.

[DVD Review] Stella:Live in Boston

Stella, the cheerfully dorky, suit wearing comedy trio of Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter and David Wain, are an offshoot of the former MTV comedy group The State. They have been performing in various mediums for the past decade, including short films and a short-lived Comedy Central series.

The troupe has also earned a cult following for their irreverent stage show, a show which was captured, and placed onto a digital video disc (DVD) entitled  “Stella: Live in Boston” which hit stores this week. Is it worth your time? Continue reading →

[Game Impressions] The New Nintendo Channel

After installing the new version of the channel and booting it up, I was literally taken aback by how much of an overhaul actually occurred. But before we get into my impressions, here’s Nintendo’s official statement regarding the Updated Nintendo Channel.

NEW-AND-IMPROVED NINTENDO CHANNEL GETS UPDATED FEATURES AND WEEKLY SHOW

Sept. 14, 2009

The Wii™ console’s Nintendo Channel is getting a makeover. On Sept. 14, the channel, which provides users with videos and information about current and upcoming Nintendo products, re-launches with a new look and feel. Some of the upgrades include higher-quality streaming videos, lists of top games that other viewers recommend and a new ability to rate and recommend Nintendo DS™ games.

Current features of the Nintendo Channel will remain, including Nintendo DS demo downloads and an extensive lineup of videos about Wii and Nintendo DS games.

As part of the update, Nintendo Channel will also premiere Nintendo Week, a weekly, hosted series about what’s happening in the world of Nintendo. The premiere episode includes an in-depth look at Mario and Luigi™: Bowser’s Inside Story, an interview with the developers behind the Wii version of Guitar Hero 5, plus coverage of the new Nintendo DSi colors, Nintendo DSiWare games and other surprises.

Happy First Birthday, Everyview!

first bdayThat’s right, Everyview readers. Today marks the first anniversary of this humble review site. We’ve grown immensely in the past year, going from Blogger to WordPress to finally getting our own domain name and experiencing more than a few layout changes in the process. Thanks to everyone who stuck with us through those first few days as Everyview.com, by there way. They were rough and everything was a mess, but you guys kept checking in on our progress and showing your support, so thank you.

This site has gone from a small hobby to my biggest investment and most time-consuming activity I do, but it is all worth it and I love doing every bit of it. I remember the day I started it, rather vividly as a matter of fact. I was sitting in class at college and desperately wanted to do anything that wasn’t my programming assignment. I remembered talking with my good friend Tate Molnar about making a website, so I took that idea and ran with it. Continue reading →

[Movie Review] Sin Nombre (DVD)

Sin Nombre (which Wikipedia tells us is Spanish for “without name”) tells the story of Willy (aka Casper, played by Edgar Flores), a teenage member of a ruthless Mexican gang. Quickly after he helps initiate a pre-teen named Smiley into his inner-circle, a personal secret Casper has been hiding is exposed, and he is abruptly betrayed by gang leader Lil’ Mago.

Shortly after, Mago, Casper and Smiley attempt to rob a train containing  migrants attempting to immigrate to America. Still stinging from the betrayal, Casper takes revenge on Mago and sends Smiley away while he stays behind on the train in hopes of escaping. While hiding out from his revenge-seeking gang members, he befriends a girl named Sayra (Paulina Gaitán) who is attempting to escape to America with her family.

[Candy Review] Black Jack Chewing Gum
