[Food Review] Sonic Breakfast Burrito

Overview:

sonic logoI love breakfast. For some reason, I’m rarely as satisfied with a good lunch or dinner as I am with a good breakfast. There’s something about having your belly full in the morning that just starts the day off right.

Unfortunately, I’m both lazy (so I rarely make my own breakfast) and poor (so I’m unable to grab a quick bite regularly). But this morning I decided that my hunger could not wait until my scheduled lunch time, and I rolled through the drive-thru of my local Sonic. I perused the menu, and found something enticing. A breakfast burrito. I thought, “Surely, this is a delicious thing.” So I bought one. Continue reading

[Movie Review] Bruno (Theatrical)

Overview:

brunoposterI’ll be honest right from the start — Bruno is not for the faint of heart (that rhymed, unintentionally). There are plenty of gross-out moments, including a talking dickhole and plenty of Dildo play. Sascha Baron Cohen has a character as flamboyantly homosexual as Austrian Fashionista Bruno, and he’s not shy about exploiting people’s true selves on camera. His effort here is no less devoted than in the smash hit “Borat,” however Bruno lacks what the predecessor had in spades. Spontaneity.

Because while “Borat” seemed to be completely unscripted and off-the-cuff humor where a talented actor simply played with the cards he was dealt by real people in semi-real situations, everything about Bruno seems a little bit too set-up. It’s virtually a string of interviews Bruno does, tied together somewhat sloppily. Because while Borat had a mission, to get to L.A. to marry Pamela Anderson, Bruno doesn’t seem to have a real mission or anything it’s working towards. However, it’s still an effective comedy because it’s funny as hell. But, in comparison to his last effort, Bruno is just a little disappointing. Continue reading

[Music Review] Killswitch Engage: “Killswitch Engage”

killswitch

Overview:

Metalcore band Killswitch Engage released their latest album, aptly titled “Killswitch Engage”, on June 30th. This album is another step up, as the band looks to reinvent themselves yet again, and they do a successful job breaking some new ground on this album. Continue reading

[DVD Review] Entourage: The Complete Fifth Season

entourageOpening Remark:

After sputtering towards the end of season four, HBO’s once addictively entertaining showbiz comedy “Entourage” returned to DVD shelves last week, with the release of it’s fifth season, where it appears to have pretty much officially run out of gas.

Though I was ready to rip the show for being past its prime, it did do something I didn’t expect it to do — it ended strongly. The show was able to siphon enough energy to help it turn out to be, at the very least, watchable. Enough bad metaphors, it’s review time. Continue reading

[Everyview Doubleshot: Theme Park Review] Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari

Overview:

holidayworldlogoIn this edition of Everyview Doubleshot, Andrew Majors and Zac Pritcher take a look at Holiday World, a holiday-inspired theme park. Both writers visited the park on separate days, Andrew on a Saturday and Zac on a Wednesday. Continue reading

[Concert Review] Explosions in the Sky: Live in Chicago

Overview:

explosions in the skyThere comes a time in a man’s life when he discovers a band who’s music chills him to the core. Each note they strike seems perfectly timed, perfectly orchestrated, and perfectly epic. Explosions in the Sky is one of those bands.

As soon as I heard they were going to be performing in Chicago, I knew I had to make the trip. There are only a handful of bands I had on my “Must See Live” list, and Explosions were right near the top of that list. Having listened to them since I discovered they were behind the chilling score for “Friday Night Lights,” I knew their live show would be both enigmatic and intense.

And it did not disappoint. Continue reading

[Music Review] Marcy Playground “Leaving Wonderland… In A Fit of Rage”

leaving_wonderlandOverview:

“Leaving Wonderland… In a Fit of Rage” began life as the second solo project from Marcy Playground’s talented frontman John Wozniak, but was eventually became Marcy’s fourth studio album.

The album deals with topics that almost everyone can relate to, becoming a fantastic soundtrack for life. The amazingly personal and soulful lyrics are accompanied by fantastically written music  that shows just how talented Marcy Playground is.

It’s an excellent album, I’ll say that right now. But was it worth the five year wait? Continue reading

[Music Review] Marcy Playground “MP3”

marcyplayground mp3Overview:

Five years would come and go before Marcy Playground would release a follow-up effort to their 1999 album, “Shapeshifter.”  Marcy Playground’s 3rd studio album, titled “MP3,” was highly anticipated by fans, despite the fact that the band would not deliver a tour to support or hype the album’s release. Couple that with the fact that there was virtually no radio air time for any of the four released singles and it’s easy to see why this album is almost virtually unknown to anyone who isn’t a die-hard Marcy fan. [DVD Review] Young & Handsome: A Night With Jeff Garlin

garlin Overview:

For years, I have enjoyed the work of Jeff Garlin as Larry David’s manager on “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” arguably the best American comedy series of the past decade. He has a very likable screen presence which plays off the curmudgeon brilliance of  David quite nicely. So when I saw Netflix was streaming his new stand-up DVD “Young & Handsome” a week before it hit stores, I was very eager to view it.

Sadly, while Garlin’s likability is still very present on stage, much of “Curb’s” hilarity isn’t. “Young & Handsome” is occasionally amusing but never hilarious, at times a bit tedious, and it lacks the polished feel you’d expect from a stand-up concert DVD. Continue reading

[Food Review] McDonald’s Angus Deluxe Burger

McdonaldsangusboxOverview:

I don’t eat McDonald’s too often. You see, I used to work for the fast food giant. It’s not that anything particularly gross ever went on behind the scenes, but after eating nothing but McDonald’s for lunch over a span of 3 months, it just loses any appeal it had before.

But now that they’ve finally decided to add a new high quality line of  burgers to their stale menu, I can’t help but be curious. And as our friends at GrubGrade have pointed out, the last time McDonald’s released a new burger was in 2001 with the Big N’ Nasty. I mean Tasty. Whatever, they suck. Continue reading
