Even the biggest of movie buffs hate the Oscars due to the fact they are tortuously dull, so who in the bloody fuck thinks it’s a good idea to not only increase the Best Picture Nominees, but to double them and make the awful program even longer? I’m sure a lot of this has to do with the Best Picture snubbing of “The Dark Night” last year, but seriously, even if this does increase the chances for blockbuster movies, like “Star Trek” or Andrew Majors’ favorite film “Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen” to get nominated, it doesn’t actually much improve their chances of winning. [Movie Review] Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (Theatrical)
Overview:
Overwrought with an indiscernible plot and outlandish action sequences, the sequel to the popular Transformers franchise is brutal in every sense of the word. I took a sheet of paper into the theater, to jot down things both “Good” and”Bad”. It ended up double sided “Bad.” Continue reading
Summer ’09 Movie Season Part 1
Each year, film studios stack their summer release schedule with some can’t-miss blockbusters, usually sequels, and they make millions and millions of dollars. It’s tried and true. People have a little bit more spare time during the summer, and are maybe a little more apt to go to the theater to spend some of their hard earned money.
Summer 2009 has been horrifically disappointing thus far. We started off May 1st with the release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and will continue this week with the much anticipated release of Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. Continue reading
Chowder T-Shirt
It’s purple. That makes it awesome because chicks will think you are gay and take showers in front of you. Trust me.
Get it online here. $19 plus s&h.
I love Chowder.
[Movie Review] Angels and Demons
Angels and Demons is another Dan Brown adaptation from Ron Howard starring Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon, and the latest effort is no more of a quality film as the disappointing Da Vinci Code. A film that bounces between fun for the first two hours and tedious in the final thirty minutes never seems to know when to say when, Angels and Demons is neither very good nor very worthwhile. And there might be some spoilers in this review, so watch out. Continue reading
[Movie Review] Doubt
Doubt, a 2008 oft-awarded film, is simple in structure, but not simple in theme. It’s a very mature film, one that requires the viewer to watch and watch closely, as the dialogue is what drives the film.
It took me awhile to see this movie, and I’m surprised that it did. I usually rush out to see these Oscar-baity films but in this case I’m glad I waited. I don’t think a theater experience is needed for this film, and I actually think it probably plays better on a smaller scale. Continue reading
[DVD Review] Gran Torino
Overview:
I heard a wide range of opinions about Clint Eastwood’s new movie “Gran Torino” prior to my viewing of it. Opinions ranging from “great,” to “comically awful” to “intentionally comically awful,” so I felt like I had a wide variety of options before I watched it.
I have a great deal of respect for Clint Eastwood as an actor and a director, and the good opinions for this movie greatly outweighed the bad, so I tried to block out the “comically awful” claims made by my brother and his east coast friends, hoping their claims were mere elitism. Continue reading
Zack Morris on Jimmy Fallon
So I don’t watch Jimmy Fallon’s late night show, but have heard internet rumblings that he is trying to organize a reunion of the cast of “Saved By The Bell,” arguably the greatest American sitcom the world has ever known.
[Movie Review] The Hangover (Theatrical)
Overview:
I’d been excited about this movie since I saw the trailer, and I’ll start off by saying “IT DELIVERS”. It isn’t one of those comedies that shoots its wad in the trailer, wasting all the genuine laughs to con you into paying $8 to see it, and then providing nothing new or fresh, leaving you to exit the theater with the sensation that you’ve just been had. This movie is worth it for a variety of reasons. Continue reading
[DVD Review] Wrestlemania 25th Anniversary
On April 4th the WWE celebrated what they called the 25th Anniversary of “the granddaddy of ’em all,” WRESTLEMANIA. I say “what they call” because for anyone familiar with anniversaries, they know that since there was no Wrestlemania 0 that the actual 25th Anniversary won’t come until next year. However, minor bitching aside, the event delivered a strong product (for the most part) and the DVD set is a nice addition to my collection for a variety of reasons. Continue reading
