[TV Review] South Park (Season 13, Ep. 8)

south park season 13 ep 8I’m going to warn you right now. I think South Park is the single greatest TV show of ALL-TIME. It is the only show that, with each passing year, actually improves. I attribute that to Trey Parker and Matt Stone having not only brilliant comedic minds, but that they have refined their method of production in such a way that they can include the most current of topics into the show. With this, they make each season seem just as, if not more, relevant than the last.

They always push the envelope creatively, and even if you think you’ve seen a shitty episode or two, you haven’t. I’ve made that mistake, too. I get my hopes and expectations up so high that sometimes an episode falls a little flat. But go back and watch it again. Even a mediocre episode of South Park is better than even the best episodes of some other good shows. Continue reading

[Doubleshot Movie Review] Zombieland (Theatrical)

In this Doubleshot Review, Everyview EIC Zac Pritcher and newcomer Brandon Majors (who is not related to Andrew) went on a romantic date to catch the highly anticipated Zombedy film Zombieland in theaters. Popcorn, soda pop, and blue slushies in-hand, the boys prepared for what they hoped would be the first successful mainstream zombie-comedy since Shaun of the Dead.

Pro tip: It blows Shaun of the Dead out of the bloody, corpse-ridden water. Continue reading

[Movie Review] Away We Go (DVD)

away_we_goAnyone know who Sam Mendes is? The director of such films as American Beauty, Jarhead, and my personal favorite, Road to Perdition delivers this incredibly under the radar movie about to expecting parents (The Office’s John Krasinski and SNL’s Maya Rudolph) who realize they aren’t bound by anything in their current lives, and can choose to raise their daughter anywhere they want.

The film follows Bert and Verona on their journey across North America, trying to find the best possible place to raise a child. They head to Phoenix, where their old “friends” live. There they find a largely dysfunctional crew, (including a CRIMINALLY underused Jim Gaffigan), and hot weather, and easily decide this isn’t the place to be. Continue reading

[Movie News] Paranormal Activity, Demand It!

Don’t you just love those movies that are made with a budget under 100,000 dollars and kick the shit out of most other movies that have huge budgets. Flashback to 1999 when the little movie The Blair Witch Project came out. A film that was originally produced with around 16,000 dollars and blew everyone away. Then there is movies like the upcoming Jame’s Cameron’s Avatar which has a budget of 288,000,000 Washingtons. Man, we are all praying that movie will be good, not for our sake, but for his.

But I digress, apparently the movie Paranormal Activitiy, which is included in that low budget movie market, made with only 11,000 dollars, premiered at the Screamfest Film Festival in 2007 and at the Slamdance Film Festival in 2008, and has been released at limited theaters this month. The movie has been receiving extremely high ratings from fans and critics scoring a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. Continue reading

[TV Guest Review] Stargate Universe Premiere

Opening Statement:

I’ve been a Sci Fi fan as long as I can remember. It has been my escape from the world. When I was a teen I fell in love with a movie that I must have watched 30 times or more. This wonderful movie was Stargate! In 1997 Stargate SG-1 came to be, and it was a big hit. I didn’t really get into it ’til about a year ago (I know, shame on me). Since then I have seen every episode of SG-1, the SG-1 Movies and Stargate Atlantis multiple times and never seem to get tired of them. So when the news of SGU came around I got goose bumps and marked my calendar for the big event. Finally, last night, the season premiere aired! Continue reading

[TV Review] The Cleveland Show Premiere

The Cleveland Show has received a lot of hype. It was even mentioned in an episode of Family Guy by Cleveland himself. The pilot episode premiered September 27th on Fox network, and was watched by approximately 9.42 million viewers. That’s a good number of people, but I’m willing to wager that most of them were disappointed, much like myself. Continue reading

[TV Review] Dexter Season 4 Premiere

Few shows give me the chubby that Showtime’s Dexter does. It’s fun, intelligent, original. So, having caught up on DVD, I was finally ready to watch my first season on TV, without the ability to watch multiple episodes in a day.

The Season 4 Premiere begins with us getting a look at the new father/husband Dexter. Visibly exhausted, he’s trying to juggle his new life with his desire for his old life, all while adding a new baby into the mix. We are quickly introduced the this season’s main new character, The Trinity Killer (played by Jon Lithgow). Having another serial killer for Dexter to go toe to toe with is going to lead to a very intense season, I believe. Continue reading

[Movie Review] 500 Days of Summer (Theatrical)

Overview:

The romantic comedy genre is tough because audiences tend to have such preconceived notions pertaining to the endings of these films. The couple is supposed to get together and live happily ever after. It is in this way that these movies tend to fail. The problems are quickly solved, people are made to be the quickest forgivers in the world, and everything ends up neatly tied up with a bow on top.

Not in 500 Days of Summer.

[TV Review] The Office: Season Six Premier

the officeOpening Statement:

“The Office,” the once great American remake of the former great British series of the same name, has been spinning its wheels a bit over the past couple seasons, leading to a very noticeable dip in hilarity. If last nights season six premier is any indication, an up-kick in said hilarity may be a ways away. Continue reading

[DVD Review] Stella:Live in Boston

stellaOverview:

Stella, the cheerfully dorky, suit wearing comedy trio of Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter and David Wain, are an offshoot of the former MTV comedy group The State. They have been performing in various mediums for the past decade, including short films and a short-lived Comedy Central series.

The troupe has also earned a cult following for their irreverent stage show, a show which was captured, and placed onto a digital video disc (DVD) entitled  “Stella: Live in Boston” which hit stores this week. Is it worth your time? Continue reading
