[Everyview Doubleshot: Music Review] Wilco (The Album)

wilcothealbumWe’re trying something new here on Everyview, and if you think past reviews have been too long, you haven’t seen anything yet.

Contributors Clay Cunningham and Andrew Majors are both avid Wilco fans, and both wanted to review the band’s latest, “Wilco (The Album),” and were both too petty to just let the other one have it. So, what we’ve done is combined them into the first ever “Everyview Doubleshot,” a format we basically stole from our friends at we-rate-stuff.

So while it may be pointless to essentially run the same review from two different vantage points, both contributors clearly feel very strongly about this new work and have several varied reasons why you should check it out. And if reading both reviews  simultaneously seems to be too daunting a task, feel free to take a break and come back at a later time. Our stats look better that way. Continue reading

[Music Review] The Mars Volta “Octahedron”

Music Review Mars VoltaOverview:

Since their inception, The Mars Volta have proven to be one of the more conflicting bands of the modern era. After splitting up underground punk heroes At The Drive-In, principal musicians Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez kicked off TMV’s career with 2003’s sprawling masterpiece “De-Loused in the Comatorium,” only to follow it with 2005’s “Frances The Mute,” a self-congratulatory piece of shit made by people who were far too pleased with their own “unique” vision. The albums that followed, 2006’s “Amputechture” and last years “The Bedlam in Goliath” fell somewhere in between. They possessed moments of genuine inspiration, but didn’t possess the overall charm of the band’s debut. Continue reading

[Movie News] Oscar’s Expand Best Picture Nominees From 5 to 10

The OscarsFucking stupid.

Even the biggest of movie buffs hate the Oscars due to the fact they are tortuously dull, so who in the bloody fuck thinks it’s a good idea to not only increase the Best Picture Nominees, but to double them and make the awful program even longer? I’m sure a lot of this has to do with the Best Picture snubbing of “The Dark Night” last year, but seriously, even if this does increase the chances for blockbuster movies, like “Star Trek” or Andrew Majors’ favorite film “Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen” to get nominated, it doesn’t actually much improve their chances of winning. [Nostalgia Nonsense] Sears Air Conditioner Commercial from the 90’s

So I was searching through YouTube videos as I so frequently do and stumbled across a commercial I used to love as a kid. Why do I find this funny? I’m not really sure, but there is something indefinably comical about the way the two pinhead actors in this commercial deliver their respective last lines. If you don’t agree, sorry, but I haven’t posted anything in awhile and I was elated to find this so I elected to share. And even if you find it to be a waste of time, with the scalding heat it’s, at the very least, timely.

[Food Review] Dove Peanut Butter Silky Smooth Milk Chocolate Bar

Overview:

dove-peanut-butter-bagOf all the candied bars you find sitting around your local convenience or grocery store, Dove has always seemed to be one of the snottiest. One always got the impression that if it could emote, Dove would likely scoff at the idea of being stored amongst the Skor’s and Nutrageous’ of the world.  This is why I found it so odd to see a new Dove bar containing peanut butter. This is not a shot at peanut butter, as I eat it often. I would not, however, call it as a “classy” food. So is this mash-up worth your money? Continue reading

[DVD Review] Gran Torino

Overview:

gran-torino-movie-reviewI heard a wide range of opinions about Clint Eastwood’s new movie “Gran Torino” prior to my viewing of it. Opinions ranging from “great,” to “comically awful” to “intentionally comically awful,” so I felt like I had a wide variety of options before I watched it.

I have a great deal of respect for Clint Eastwood as an actor and a director, and the good opinions for this movie greatly outweighed the bad, so I tried to block out the  “comically awful” claims made by my brother and his east coast friends, hoping their claims were mere elitism. [TV Review] “Nurse Jackie” Pilot Episode

nurse-jackie-showtime-premiereOverview:

If most networks aired “Nurse Jackie,” a new dramady series about an opinionated veteran nurse who plays by her own rules, it would likely seem trite and obnoxious. But when aired on Showtime, a network noted for shows about serial killers, sex addicted (and statutory rapist) novelists and the erotic escapades of Henry VIII, it is bound to generate at least a little interest.

Enticed when I saw the ad to stream the show’s pilot episode for free on Showtime’s official site, I gave ‘er a view and while I wasn’t blown away, I must say I left the show feeling fairly satisfied. Continue reading

[TV Review] “Breaking Bad” Season Two Finale

walt-and-jesse

Overview:

This is the third time I have written about the AMC series “Breaking Bad,” a show about a chemistry teacher who turns to making crystal meth after discovering he has lung cancer. In my humble opinion, it is the best show on television right now.

After weeks of teasers hinted at some wild shit going down in the season finale, my anticipation level was at an all time high when the season finale aired Sunday. After lifting my expectations, would the series be able to meet them? Continue reading
