[Movie News] “I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell” Trailer

I’m sure many of my devoted followers will recall a book review I did way back when, called “I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell” by Tucker Max. And if you don’t remember that, allow me to present you with this once in a lifetime gift, in the form of a link to that (fantastic) review.

Now, as it turns out, our friends in Hollywood decided that this particular book would make for a worthwhile film! I know that books being converted to film is a rare happening, so I feel we should all support these legions of book and screen at ALL times. Yes, that was coated in sarcasm.

Anyway, here’s the trailer:

[Movie Review] Funny People (Theatrical)

Overview:

funny peopleThere are certain people out there who can’t seem to separate a good, but ultimately disappointing film from a non-quality film. I read other reviews about this film, and because of the talent involved I think people’s expectations were sky high, and rightfully so.  Director Judd Apatow has shown an ability to be more hit than miss, Seth Rogen has really evolved into a breakout comedy star, and the film boasts one of the sure Box-Office powerhouses in Adam Sandler. So, with all this going in, how is the actual film? Continue reading

[Music Review] Portugal. The Man “The Satanic Satanist”

portugal.theman satanicsatanistOverview:

I go through these phases where I discover wonderful bands at a breakneck pace, and then I sort of toil around for a bit waiting to see which of the bands will self-destruct, which will find mainstream success, or which ones will put out great music for years to come. Lucky for me I’m in one of my discovery phases right now, and one of the new bands I’ve uncovered for my listening pleasure is Portugal. The Man.

Portugal. The Man definitely and unquestionably have an interesting band name. The name has a background that involves David Bowie and a planned book by one of the band’s members, and it’s obviously an attention grabbing name. I’m actually still a little puzzled as to what it actually means. Continue reading

[Music Review] Ben Harper and Relentless 7 “White Lies for Dark Times”

Overview:

benharperandrelentless7I enjoy good ol’ beer-in-hand Rock and Roll music, and unfortunately what we’re told is “Rock” these days (Nickelback, Hinder, etc.) seems to want to substitute straight-forward rock power and that beer-in-hand feeling with sappy, horrible lyrics, tacky musicianship and a nice cold wine cooler. Luckily there are bands out there who don’t shy away from what Rock and Roll should be, and this album is a throwback to those days when great rock music wasn’t only played on Classic Rock stations. [TV Review] Californication: Season Two

Overview:

californication season 2The seedy, vulgar, and always entertaining Californication is back for its second season, and the show keeps rolling into one of the best on TV. Season Two is available on DVD August 25th, and I thought I would review the entire second season for those of you who might be interested in a show that involves a lot of sex. Continue reading

Getting Ready for Lollapalooza! [Which Bands Do You Want Reviewed?]

lollapaloozaI’m sure a lot of my more avid Everyview readers (both of you) have noticed that I have reviewed a couple of live shows since I came to the site (Wilco and Explosions in the Sky).

Well get ready for more.

I’m going to be attending Lollapalooza’s Saturday festivities in Chicago on August 8th, and I plan on doing a MAJOR write up on the festival experience as a whole, while also breaking down the individual artists sets. There is one band I will be seeing no matter what (TOOL), but seeing how this is a festival, and choices must be made, I’d like to ask you guys to help me out with some tough decisions.

Arctic Monkeys or Coheed and Cambria?

TV on the Radio or Rise Against?

Ben Harper and the Relentless 7 or Animal Collective?

As well, if there is anyone else on that lineup you would like to see a review of, let me know. I’ll do my best to oblige, unless of course you have horrible taste, I change my mind at the last minute, or I end up a bit too intoxicated to freely roam the streets of Chicago.

[Book Review] “Pain and Passion: The History of Stampede Wrestling” by Heath McCoy

painandpassionOverview:

Most of you avid Everyview readers have probably already realized that I’m still a fan of professional wrestling. I’m 24 years old, and am proud to say that I enjoy Pro Wrestling, and DO NOT live in my parent’s basement and/or any kind of Trailer Park. I am a college educated, contributing (however small said ‘contributions’ may be) member of society. Continue reading

[Book Review] “Lamb” by Christopher Moore

lambOverview:

I’ll be honest, I stopped going to Sunday School in 10th Grade, and I stopped paying serious attention around 4th Grade. Now, before you call me an atheist or something, just be aware that Sunday School generally takes place on SUNDAYS. As an avid NFL Enthusiast, my mind was always on the afternoon slate of games, rather then on how to become a better person through Catholicism. For me, I made the right choice. Continue reading

[Food Review] Sonic Breakfast Burrito

Overview:

sonic logoI love breakfast. For some reason, I’m rarely as satisfied with a good lunch or dinner as I am with a good breakfast. There’s something about having your belly full in the morning that just starts the day off right.

Unfortunately, I’m both lazy (so I rarely make my own breakfast) and poor (so I’m unable to grab a quick bite regularly). But this morning I decided that my hunger could not wait until my scheduled lunch time, and I rolled through the drive-thru of my local Sonic. I perused the menu, and found something enticing. A breakfast burrito. I thought, “Surely, this is a delicious thing.” So I bought one. Continue reading

[Movie Review] Bruno (Theatrical)

Overview:

brunoposterI’ll be honest right from the start — Bruno is not for the faint of heart (that rhymed, unintentionally). There are plenty of gross-out moments, including a talking dickhole and plenty of Dildo play. Sascha Baron Cohen has a character as flamboyantly homosexual as Austrian Fashionista Bruno, and he’s not shy about exploiting people’s true selves on camera. His effort here is no less devoted than in the smash hit “Borat,” however Bruno lacks what the predecessor had in spades. Spontaneity.

Because while “Borat” seemed to be completely unscripted and off-the-cuff humor where a talented actor simply played with the cards he was dealt by real people in semi-real situations, everything about Bruno seems a little bit too set-up. It’s virtually a string of interviews Bruno does, tied together somewhat sloppily. Because while Borat had a mission, to get to L.A. to marry Pamela Anderson, Bruno doesn’t seem to have a real mission or anything it’s working towards. However, it’s still an effective comedy because it’s funny as hell. But, in comparison to his last effort, Bruno is just a little disappointing. Continue reading
