[Concert Review] Kings of Leon: Live at Verizon Wireless in Noblesville, IN

You might be asking yourself, “A Kings of Leon concert? Really?”

Yes, really. I’m a big fan of their’s, and just because they happen to have a song on pop music stations now doesn’t really bother me. I don’t see them as a band who sold out (yet). Sure, they could eventually hit Nickelback or Kid Rock status at some point, but I doubt that ever happens. They have a distinctive sound, and I dig it.

Anyhoo, I headed up to Noblesville, Indiana to catch the show with my girlfriend and a couple friends. First of all, it had been a few years since I’d been up there for a show (2005, I believe), and I was very excited to see the area around the amphitheater has undergone a massive face lift in those years and that traffic was not suicide inducing (at least, not on the way in. [Movie Review] 500 Days of Summer (Theatrical)

Overview:

The romantic comedy genre is tough because audiences tend to have such preconceived notions pertaining to the endings of these films. The couple is supposed to get together and live happily ever after. It is in this way that these movies tend to fail. The problems are quickly solved, people are made to be the quickest forgivers in the world, and everything ends up neatly tied up with a bow on top.

Not in 500 Days of Summer.

[Retro Review] New Radicals “Maybe You’ve Been Brainwashed Too”

newradicalsmaybeyouvebeenbrainwashedtooLet’s face it. There are always going to be bands who hit the airwaves with a catchy tune, and then fade as if they never existed in the first place. These types of acts are a dime for twelve (is that how it goes?)

In the mid to late 90s, there were a shocking amount of these bands on radio stations all over the nation. Every week, it seemed, there was another catchy tune, only to be replaced by two more the next week. The airwaves were literally jam packed with tunes that were fun, harmless, and actually, pretty damn good. Continue reading →

[Music Review] The Decemberists “The Hazards of Love”

The Decemberists, yet another of my more recent musical discoveries, released “The Hazards of Love” earlier this year, and having just been turned on to them, I just checked it out. “Wow” is the quickest way to describe this album.

There aren’t a ton of young bands out there who could produce a concept album like this and have it not suck. Listening to it the first time around, I was completely blown away by the structure of the album. It’s not just a collection of songs, it’s actually written in such a way that there is a story within the album. This is Pink Floyd kind of shit, and to say The Decemberists have hit a home run here would be an understatement. There isn’t a hit in baseball that describes this album.

[News Update] Everyview Contributor Loses Testicles, Joins Twitter

I never said I wasn’t  a little behind the times.

That title is a tad misleading. I still have my entire scrotum and its contents swinging safe and sound between my thighs, so worry not.

Like seventy-eight years after it became such a “cool” fad, I have broken down and gotten a Twitter account. I feel like if I repeat my mantra, “I am not a douche, I am not a douche…” then I will be fine.

Why I did it? I honestly don’t know. Boredom maybe. A desire to create witty twats throughout the day to the joy of a nation. To show people how in tune to pop culture I am, perhaps. Or somehow create my own sheep who will follow me to the light!

[Music Review] Arctic Monkeys “Humbug”

Overview:

arctic-monkeys-humbugI’ve very recently fallen in love with a few new bands, and the Arctic Monkeys are one of them. I’d heard of them sparingly until the beginning of this last summer, when I spotted them on the Lollapalooza line-up on the day I was set to attend. As I exposed myself to the myriad of bands set to play that day, a few stuck out above the rest, and the Arctic Monkeys were one of the ones who really seemed to lead the pack.

So I picked up their first two major releases, “Favourite Worst Nightmare” and “Whatever You Say That I Am, That is What I Am Not,” and really started digging their entire catalog of songs. They had a punky, stripped down, in your face British style that was very recognizable and unique. Their lyrics were cheeky and fun, and their music was fresh and had a real smoothness amongst all the abrasive rhythmic punch. Continue reading →

[Concert Review] Saturday at Lollapalooza

lollapalooza2009_largeI have been to some concerts in my day, but none of those one-night shows compare to the feeling of wandering through downtown Chicago on Saturday afternoon through the evening and well into the night just soaking up all the great music that was being played in Grant Park.

There were so many bands playing Saturday that I wanted to see, and to see some just wasn’t feasible, either by a time standard or physically. My entire day was set around seeing Tool live, headlining the Chicago 2016 stage that night. The afternoon was filled with purposeful wandering as I tried to ingest the most music for my dollar. I’ve decided to review the show with some categories that I feel can describe the day best. [Movie News] Brave New World: In Theaters?

brave-new-worldWell, I suppose you could say I’m shooting for a particular theme lately, that being popular books being adapted to screen. I first gave you loyal Everyviewers the trailer for Tucker Max’s “I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell” that is slated for release this September.

I just stumbled upon another book-to-screen adaptation that actually tickles my fancy quite a bit as well, and that is the news of a potential Big Screen Adaptation of Brave New World, the 1932 classic novel by Alduous Huxley.

The project has apparently been on Director/Producer Ridley Scott’s radar for the better part of 2 decades, and it’s strongly rumored that if a script were up to his lofty standards, we could actually see Leonardo DiCaprio himself star in this movie.

I hate to admit this, but I am pretty chubbed up just thinking about this. If done right, this could be an EPIC film to go along with a WONDERFUL book.
