[Book News] DC to Publish Weekly Series of Superhero Comic Strips

dccomicswednesdaycomicsDC Comics has announced they will be publishing a new weekly series called the Wednesday Comics, which will be delivered to comic shops every Wednesday for a period of 12 weeks on a newsprint format. Each publication contains multiple strips of famous DC comics such as Superman, Batman, The Green Lantern and many more, telling 15 stories in total.

When asked about the temporary return to the newspaper format, DC Art Director Mark Chiarello said “There’s a certain romance to the history of the big old Sunday funnies that I wanted to try to recapture in Wednesday Comics, why not dust off the format and have a little fun?”

The weekly series kicks off July 8 at $3.99 for each publication. If you are only interested in the Superman strip and are afraid of inky fingers, USA Today will publish all 12 Superman strips online for your viewing pleasure.

[Book Review] I Am 8-Bit (Jon M. Gibson)

07675#8Bit_Cover_mech.inddOverview:

Good art comes from artists with strong emotional inspiration, and there is nothing more powerful than nostalgic feelings of childhood. “I Am 8-Bit” is a compilation of works from various artists who drew inspiration from their memories of drowning themselves in the fantastic fantasy worlds only video games could provide. [Food Review] Batter Blaster (Original)

Overview:

batterblasterreviewDon’t you hate making pancakes? First you’ve got to get the bulky, square-shaped box full of annoying powder that you have to mix with milk until your wrists are filled with carpel before you can scoop batter onto a frying pan. That process requires a bowl, mixing apparatus, scooping mechanism, and something very few Americans have — time. Either that or they are just really lazy. Possibly just too fat to move.

Regardless of your reason for not making pancakes as often as you would like to, the fact still stands that you want flapjacks every once in a while and would like to be able to eat them without all the preparation. Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce Batter Blasters. Pancakes in a can.

Seriously. Continue reading

[Game Review] Swords & Soldiers (WiiWare)

Overview:

swordsandsoldierswiiSystem: Wii (WiiWare Exclusive)
Developer: Ronimo Games
Publisher: Ronimo Games
Genre: RTS (Real Time Strategy)

Real Time Strategy games and consoles generally don’t mix well. A handful of buttons and a couple of analog sticks just don’t emulate the feel of a keyboard and mouse when it comes to the RTS genre. There’s just too much going on all at once. Too many troops to micro-manage, to many resources to mine, too many enemy bases to destroy, and too many dimensions (three) to move through.

But what if you simplified that formula and put it on the Wii? What if there were only a handful of troops that managed themselves, one resource to mine, never more than a few bases to destroy, and everything was given to you from a 2-d sidescrolling perspective? And the pointer could be used exactly as a mouse pointer. Would it work? Continue reading

[Mobile Game Review] Castlevania: Order of Shadows (Blackberry)

Overview:

castlevania bb startIt’s hard to find good action games on mobile phones. It’s even harder to find a good cellular adaptation of your favorite established gaming franchises. Games on mobile phones are almost always hard to play, hard to look at, and hard to convince yourself to spend $10 on something you’ll likely regret.

I know first hand from my experience with Resident Evil: Genesis that relying on name recognition alone isn’t enough to make a decision when browsing through the overwhelming amount of crappy games you can download to your BlackBerry, a phone that has never been known for having good games to begin with. [Food News] Terre Haute, IN Whitecastle Finally Arrives and Breaks Company Sales Records

white castle terre haute lineDave Dore, White Castle’s regional director, revealed that the company sold over 30,000 White Castle Slyders on the day of the restaurant’s grand opening at the newly established location in my hometown of Terre Haute, Indiana.

This may surprise the White Castle company, but the people of Terre Haute have literally been begging for a branch of the famous Mid-West burger chain for several years.

And in all honesty I hope whoever it was that thought it would be a financially questionable decision to build restaurant here feels like an absolute idiot.
