[Movie Review] The Crazies (2010)

The Crazies is a remake of a 1973 George A. Romero film by the same name. Directed by Breck Eisner, this film takes place in a small Iowa town where, after Sheriff David Dutton (Timothy Olyphant) and his Deputy, Russell Clank (Joe Anderson) find themselves with a handful of dead bodies, things seem to go straight to Hell. In one of the earlier scenes a man locks his wife and son inside of their country home and sets it ablaze.

Shortly after this scene I set my hopes high for a frightening, heartless celebration of gore and violence. What The Crazies delivers instead is a tale of survival against a disease cause by government corruption and dishonesty. It turns out the entire epidemic was caused by the crash of a plane carrying some chemical weapon into the town’s drinking water. When David and Russell stumble across this problem, things in the story finally start to progress. Continue reading →

[Energy Review] Nuclear Energy Powder (All Three Flavors)

I’ve had an energy powder before in the form of Encaff Energy Stix, and if you read my review for those you know that it didn’t turn out very well. In fact it turned out horribly. That was one of the worst Energy Drink alternatives I’ve ever had, and haven’t been willing to taste an energy powder since then.

However, when the folks at Harcos Labs hit me up with an offer to try their newest concoctions, I couldn’t resist. These are the guys behind the Mana, Health, and Blood energy potions, so I had trusted them enough to give me something that hopefully wouldn’t kill me. And if it did I had my fingers crossed that they would release some type of Life Energy Potion next.

[Energy Review] Uranium Energy Powder (Yellow Cake)

Yes, you red the title right. Uranium is a member of the Nuclear Energy family of caffeinated candy powders, and it is easily the most awesomely flavored energy product I’ve ever come across. I mean, who doesn’t just love cake? It’s delicious!

But you already knew how awesome cake was. What you may not know is how awesome a cake-flavored energy powder actually is. Which I don’t understand. It’s caffeine-infused candy powder that tastes like cake. Continue reading →

[Food Review] Cupcake Pebbles

I love cereal. I love cupcakes. Cupcake-flavored cereal? Sign me up!

Cupcake Pebbles is essentially exactly what the name implies. The classic Pebbles shapes sweetened and flavored to taste like delicious, tasty little cupcakes. It’s a fantastic idea, really, and when you think about it there has been a pretty sizable explosion of food products that taste like various forms of cake despite being other things. Take, for example, that BK Birthday Cake Milkshake, which was delicious. Something else that comes to mind is the Yellow Cake flavor of Nuclear Energy Powder, which is the best flavor of that particular line of products.

Plutonium is one of three flavors from a line of caffeinated candy dust called Nuclear Energy Powder. We’ve got all three flavors to review, so we’re going to handle this like we did with the Nitrous Monsters. First we’ll publish our individual reviews for each flavor, then a review for the line of products as a whole, with links to each flavor’s review.

This is the second flavor of Nuclear we are reviewing, following Radium. Plutonium is a Pear flavored candy, which seems to turn a lot of people off. Candy flavored like pears? It’s not all that weird, really. There are pear-flavored jelly beans. And they even have a pear-flavored jellybean-flavored pudding. So a pear flavored powder might be pretty good, right? [Energy Drink Review] Vuka: Renew (Mango Peach)

I hate my job. I work as a bagger/cashier at my local Kroger grocery store. I’ve been there for three long years. I make $7.55/hr. Some of my responsibilities include bagging groceries, scanning groceries, mopping floors, sweeping the sidewalk, emptying ash trays, and cleaning human fecal matter out of a sink. I shit you not (get it?), that has happened to me before.

Needless to say, when I get home from work I am tired. Wiped out. Completely drained. I am 20-years-old and I often take naps in the middle of the day or early in the evening for God’s sake. This shouldn’t be happening! Luckily for me, the folks at Vuka have a drink just for people in my situation. Vuka Renew claims to be able to restore focus and vitality after you’ve seemingly run out of gas.

[Energy Drink Review] Vuka: Think (Pomegranate Lychee)

Vuka has already impressed me once with their Awaken formula, a delicious and refreshing orange drinking that does its job wonderfully. Now I’m coming back to the Vuka brand a second time to try their Think flavor. Specially formulated to “replenish mental alertness during the marathon of a busy day,” Vuka Think is flavored with Pomegranate and Lychee to give the beverage unique flavor and improve memory and concentration.

So here I am, 2:30 AM, stack of books cluttering my desk, a flood of papers and Flash Drives on the floor, and the beginnings of a five page Sociology paper sitting stagnant in Microsoft Word. I have repeatedly tried to pick a topic, which has to be done in order to write a thesis, which will open me up to all kinds of awards from my community college’s… well. Man, I’m a failure.

Time to put Vuka’s Think flavor to the ultimate test and see if it can really do what it claims it is capable of.
