A short while ago we posted a review of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, the first game in Rockstar’s renowned open world franchise to come to the Nintendo DS, and it was exclusive to boot. Emphasis on the word was.
In a strange out-of-nowhere move, Rockstar has announced that they will be taking the critically acclaimed DS game to the PSP. I am almost positive that this decision was made the game’s disappointingly low sales numbers, but I’m not sure the game is going to do any better on the PSP.
I have a feeling most PSP gamers won’t find it worth playing because “teh grafx are shitz,” but it’s also possible this move had nothing to do with the game’s weak sales. Whatever the reason, the exclusivity is gone and the game is on its way to the PSP in both retail and downloadable formats.
“We’re proud to extend this truly unique handheld Grand Theft Auto experience to PSP and offer a downloadable version of Chinatown Wars for PSPgo. Rockstar Leeds has shown incredible talent in creating games that raise the bar in terms of depth and innovation on portables, and with Chinatown Wars we have a rich, fast-paced, and incredibly addictive entry into the series.” – Rockstar’s Sam Houser
“Rockstar’s work with the GTA series has been an enormous part of the success of PlayStation platforms. We’re excited to welcome the critically acclaimed Chinatown Wars to the outstanding line-up of great games headed to the PSP platform this fall.” – Sony’s Jack Tretton

Yeah, I can’t see this selling to the PSP crowd with that top-down angle.
