Have you ever noticed some of the best things around start out as accidents? Potato chips, beer, Popsicles and myself are some of the more notable ones, but now we have another one to add to the list of accidents that resulted in something amazing. Valomilk Candy Cups, invented in 1931, were a total mistake. It took the genius and innovative mind of Henry Sifers to put a ruined batch of marshmallow to work and make a totally delicious candy treat that were enjoyed for half a century before, sadly, being shut down and yanked away from candy lovers throughout the country.
But thankfully the Sifers family reacquired the original equipment used to manufacture the delicious candies that left a trail on everyone’s face and began production again. Even in today’s high tech world Valomilk is made completely by hand which produces a delicious candy that focuses on quality over quantity. A real treat.
Review:
Valomilks come in packages of two cups per wrapper resting on a small cardboard piece and settled into their own paper cup. Think Reese Cups., only far more delicious. The wrapper encasing the chocolate treasures is branded with the original design which gives it a very unique, retro look. I for one really appreciate the dedication the Valomilk family puts into keeping their candies at the highest quality and staying true to the original designs that made their treat so delicious all those years ago.
While the wrapper is a treat to look at, the real pleasure of Valomilk is inside those chocolatey cups where the actual accident resides. One of the candy makers accidentally added too much vanilla into the marshmallow mix which caused it to become runny. However, Henry Sifers needed a new candy and was willing to try anything. He dipped the runny marshmallow cream into chocolatey cups. The result was one of the messiest and tastiest candies ever conceived.
And boy are they ever messy. One bite into the creamy chocolate cup will leave you struggling to lick up every last gooey string of mallow running down your face, onto your clothes, and all over your hands. But that’s half the fun! In fact, the Sifers family is so proud of the challenge it takes to enjoy their candy they established the official motto “When it runs down your chin, you know it’s a Valomilk.”
The only complaint I have with Valomilk is the exact thing that makes it so delicious. Since the candy cups are produced, even to this day, strictly by hand using old-fashioned equipment only a small number of them are manufactured each year making it very hard to track a pack down. But that’s the price you pay for such a delectable treat, I guess.
Final Words:
Valomilk are delicious little treats that are sure to tickle the fancy of anyone who loves chocolate, vanilla, marshmallow, or just getting dirty. They are easily one of my favorite candies around, so if you get the chance go ahead and grab a pack. You won’t be disappointed.
Pros
- Delicious chocolate cups
- Filled with gooey vanilla marshmallow
- That runs down your chin
Cons
- Some call them too messy, but I say it isn’t possible
Score:
Overall: 9.3/10 (Superb)
Taste: 9.5/10 (Amazing)
Texture: 9.5/10 (Delicious, messy, and gooey)
Packaging: 9.0/10 (Wonderful retro wrapper brings a unique look)
Those things look delicious. Wish I knew where to pick them up.
Vanilla marshmallow tastier than peanut butter? If someone gave me one of these out of the packaging and didn’t tell me what it was, I’d assume I was biting into a reese’s cup. Once I bite down to reveal the marshmallow center I’d probably freak out at first and it would take a few seconds to realize it wasn’t poison. That being said…if I can find these…I’m picking them up. Must try. Good review.
I’m with Ryan. Peanut Butter is far superior to marshmallow. But these do look insanely delicious. I’m gonna keep an eye out.
I dunno, I like vanilla a whole lot. I actually might enjoy these over Reese cups. If I knew where to find them that is. I’ve never seen them but god they look tasty.
Zac – thanks for the nice write up on our VALOMILK Candy Cups. I am glad you enjoyed our VALOMILKS.

THANK YOU!! I was just telling my friend susan about these and she said she had never heard of them. I told her they were great and she became interested in just how good they were. A quick google search and BAM!
Great review!
