Overview:
Loyal readers know I’m a huge fan of Taco Bell’s value menu and with the new 5 and 7-Layer (review soon) nachos there’s even more reason to love value. The 5-Layer nachos are released to the menu as an enhanced version of the already available Triple Layer nachos, which consist of beans, cheese sauce, and red sauce. The 5-Layer nachos adds a three cheese blend of schredded cheese and a scoop of seasoned beef for only 89 cents.
But like all good Taco Bell items (I’m looking at you Volcano Taco and Triple Steak) this is only available for a limited time, so hurry up and read this review and then get your ass out there for some quality time with these nachos. They’ve only got a short time to live.
Review:
As already stated, the Beefy 5-Layer nachos features very basic ingredients. Delicious seasoned beef, cheese sauce, a shredded medley of three cheeses, beans, and red sauce piled atop a bed of crisp tortilla chips. It’s like a poor man’s Nachos Bell Grande, and it’s delicious. It’s about the same size as a nachos supreme, but only costs 89 cents.
As expected, it’s delicious. Taco Belle just keeps getting great items at great values, and the Beefy 5-Layer Nachos probably packs the most value since the Cheesy Double Beef Burrito, another favorite of mine. With delicious flavor and outstanding value, Taco Bell’s new Beefy Nachos has found it’s way into my routine order. I get it every time, and I always love it just as much as I did the last time I pounded the platter down in 4.2 seconds. Yeah, I’m a fatty.
The only complaint I have is with TB’s attempt at applying a filler layer of their cheese-like goo. There’s a whole lot of it, and I’m not a huge fan of anything called cheese that isn’t really cheese. If you like it, then more power to you. I find there’s way too much of it on there when there should be more beef. I love meat.
Final Words:
But like I said, these nachos aren’t staying. Within a couple of months they will have passed on with their 7-Layer big brother leaving behind only the little Triple-Layer, the meatless chip platter no one really wants but everyone will settle for. So if you haven’t had these beefy, delicious nachos yet, go pick some up before it’s too late.
Pros
- Great value
- The addition of Beef and Shredded Cheese
- Delicious
Cons
- They’re gonna be gone in a few short months
- Why so much cheese-flavored goop?
Score:
Overall: 8.7/10 (Great)
Flavor: 8.5/10 (Yummy)
Ingredients: 8.0/10 (Great, just a little t00 much cheese sauce)
Value: 9.5/10 (89 cents. Awesome!)
thanks guys! your reviews are always cool!
I always keep tabs on your blog!

I dont know if they’re the best. Definitely the best nachos. But not the best value menu item.

Awesome review.
And these nachos are amazing. So much beef.
I agree with david though, the more cheese the better. Real cheese or not.

I just noticed these are already off of the value menu at our local TB. Is that the case everywhere? That’s a shame — this was a great value item. You could get good and full for under two bucks…
it’s gone from the menu at my local TBs but they still let me order it… delicious!!!
To anyone who is wondering, the nachos are no longer a part of Taco Bell’s value menu. However, you can still order them for a more expensive price, taking away from the value that made them so impressive in the first place.
